It definitely looks like Stargate is back on track as this is the third really good episode in a row. Since the lackluster return of Daniel Jackson, SG has hit a great stride as it approaches the midway mark for it's final season. While last weeks "The Other Guys" was extremely light-hearted and not too important in the overall continuity, "Allegiance" brings us up to date on what's happening to Tok'ra, what's up with the renegade Jaffa that SG-1 rescued in "The Warrior", and we also get a look at the ultra-secure Alpha Site.
For those not paying close attention, the alpha site is the oft-mentioned off-world location for Stargate Command, where they are setting up a second base of operations away from the Earth and secure from the Goa'uld. It's been rumored that the spin-off may be based from the Alpha Site, but I haven't heard any news on it in awhile. Anyway, back to the present... We see Tok'ra and stargate command personnel evacuating onto the alpha site through an incoming wormhole. The last person through is Jacob, who's hit in the leg by a staff blast through the wormhole before it closes, nothing too serious but at least it reminds people that weapons can travel through the gate as easily as people do, so you shouldn't stand in front of it.
We find out that Jack isn't too thrilled with the Tok'ra coming through to the alpha site. The location had been secure, but the Tok'ra had nowhere else to go since the Earth gate was in use when they tried to connect. Immediately we see tensions begin to flare as the Tok'ra come in contact with the renegade Jaffa who are lead by Master Bra'tac. In addition to Jacob, the Tok'ra are led by Malek, who's played by the same actor who plays Marcus on Jeremiah.
The first major flare-up between the factions occurs when a Tok'ra is found murdered, and a Jaffa is implicated in the murder since they had argued earlier. The Jaffa is taken into custody, and then subsequently found murdered in his cell. With tensions getting even tighter, Sam finds a naquadria generator that has been sabotaged and would have exploded and destroyed the base. Jack then organizes search teams to comb the woods, believing that the saboteur isn't part of either faction. The teams all consist of three people, one human, one Tok'ra, and one Jaffa.
Jack is teamed up with Master Bra'tac and Malek; they split up to further investigate their area. Bra'tac is attacked by an invisible attacker, while Malek looks on and then skips away like a little girl. He reports about the identity of the attacker (after Teal'c stops choking him), and tells them that Bra'tac is dead. Sam and he come up with a way to generate an EMP pulse from the generator to make the invisible attacker visible and all teams head back to the base to prevent the invisible man from getting through the stargate to report the location of the alpha site.
The combined forces of the Tok'ra, Jaffa, and humans then attempt to protect the gate from this invisible attacker and end up getting smacked around quite a bit, while Sam tries to finish the modifications to the generator. At one point Jack yells for everyone to drop to the ground and he grabs a big, honking gun (I think it's a M-249), and strafes the entire camp trying to hit the invisible attacker. Finally the generator begins to work and the invisible man is approaching Jack & Malek when it's hit by several staff blasts as it approaches. Master Bra'tac stumbles into the camp with his staff weapon after having taken out that assassin.
There's a somewhat corny final speech with Master Bra'tac proclaiming the Tahíri (humans), Tokíra, and Jaffa are now all brothers united by the attempted treachery of this assassin. I'm still not sure how much I buy Braítac surviving since the assassin killed everyone else it got the drop on, but it was still a very strong episode and showed us a bit more of how the Tok'ra and Jaffa get along. My favorite moment in the episode is when Malek is telling O'Neill that the Tok'ra have fought the Goa'uld for thousands of years and O'Neill shoots back with, "Yeah, and how's that going?" Touche...
