Stargate SG-1

Episode 5.15, "Summit"
Original Air-Date: 3/22/02
Written by Joseph Mallozzi & Paul Mullie
Directed by Martin Wood

Well, I've been asked to take over these reviews and replace the excellent Gobi who transcended his geek-ness and became a reviewer for IGN Sci-Fi, and then TNMC, thus solidifying his spot in the hierarchy of all reviewers. At the start of the current season for Stargate, I was talking on various forums about how much I loved the continuity being shown during the first few episodes, but I often remarked, "They'll tone it down now that it's confirmed this won't be the final season for the show." Well how wrong was I? This week's episode features a veritable cornucopia of continuity goodness.

One!... Two!... Okay! Recurring Character run-down!

Aldwin- "I'm Aldwin, the wannabe 'Martouf', now that he's gone I'm the token Tok'ra."
Jacob Carter - "I'm Sam's Dad, I also have a Tok'ra symbiont named Selmak in my gut."
Osiris - "I'm Daniel's college sweetie, Sarah, now possessed by the Goa'uld Osiris."
Lt. Elliot - "Thought I was a one-shot guy back in Proving Ground? I'm back!"
Martouf's Symbiont Lantash - "Martouf may be dead, but I live on in a jar!"
Yu - "I'm the coolest Goa'uld system lord cuz I'm old-school samurai style."
Zipacna - "I used to serve Apophis, now I'm hooked up with Anubis."
All other Goa'uld System Lords.

As you can see that's quite a list of recurring characters appearing in this episode. Not to mention the references to characters who aren't around anymore. I'm not sure how easy it would be for someone not familiar with SG-1 to pick up the series at this point, but it's very enjoyable to us fans who have been there from the start. Enough with my unadulterated love of continuity - how was the episode you ask?

The Tok'ra learn that the Goa'uld system lords will be holding a meeting to organize and stop their fighting amongst each other. This isn't good because the Tok'ra do everything they can to keep the Goa'uld fighting each other, 'lest they turn their combined attention to stomping out the Tok'ra. Daniel is enlisted in infiltrating the meeting and posing as Yu's loyal servant. (The producers put him in a sort of slave outfit, gotta give the girls their eye-candy I suppose.) Daniel can speak nearly perfect Goa'uld and is given a deadly poison which will kill all the Goa'uld symbionts. This poison likewise could kill the Tok'ra so it's imperative it doesn't fall into enemy hands. The rest of SG-1 is shown around a new Tok'ra underground base, while Lt. Elliot and some other greenhorns are being led by Sgt. Davis on their first off-world assignment.

Things never go as planned, and it turns out that Osiris is working with Anubis, an extremely cruel and powerful Goa'uld who was exiled by the system lords. Daniel can't use the poison because Sarah/Osiris turns up in the meeting and she recognizes him on sight. The Goa'uld attack the Tok'ra base led by Anubis's servant Zipacna and collapse much of the underground base. Lt. Elliot is seriously injured and winds up with the Lantash symbiont in him, after its jar is broken and the symbiont flops free.

Any signs of the extremely cute Lt. Hailey? Sadly no!
