Red Mars

Some days I really love the Sci Fi channel. They just announced that the channel will be producing a four hour miniseries based on the novel Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Red Mars is the first book in a trilogy that follows the first 100 human settlers on Mars. The group starts with a small colony and eventually work towards to complete terraforming of the planet.

Robinson will be a consultant on the project. He also works for NASA on their Mars Committee. If you haven't had a chance to read the book I highly recommend it. It is astonishingly well detailed and thought out. It's easily one of the most satisfying stories about Mars I've ever read. My only concern with this news is that four hours may not be long enough to do the story justice.
