SCI FI Announces New Animated Series
4 April, 2002
The SCI FI channel has announced the start of production on their first ever animated series. It will be a computer animated series call Tripping the Rift. The series is based on a short film of the same name. It is a comedy and will air weekly. The network has ordered thirteen episodes to start. They should begin airing in the first quarter of 2003.
"As we take the plunge into the world of animation, CinéGroupe and Film Roman have created a smart, funny and very twisted show that sends up current events and everything sci-fi," stated Bonnie Hammer, President of SCI FI Channel.
Tripping the Rift follows the adventures of The Free Enterprise, a smuggling vessel led by a stumpy purple alien called "Chode" who, along with his colorful group of misfit shipmates, battles arch enemies and new obstacles in space each week. The series features the comic send-ups of creators Chuck Austen and Chris Moeller, and the raucous humor of head writers Bill Rosenthal (Working, The Single Guy, The John Larroquette Show) and Andrew Borakove (South Park, Dilbert).
