Alexander the Great
It looks like we will soon be inundated with tales of Alexander the Great. Not only are there two feature film projects in motion but now an HBO miniseries. The cable channel has given the greenlight to a ten part miniseries on the fourth century Macedonian king and conqueror who helped spread Greek culture from Asia Minor and Egypt to India.
Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey are producing the epic and is based on Mary Renault's historical novels "Fire From Heaven" and "The Persian Boy." Production will begin in the summer in London. Plans are to air the series in the second quarter of 2004. HBO plans to spend roughly the same amount as it did on Band of Brothers, roughly $125 million.
