Red Sonja

I'm not sure what to say about this movie. On the one hand it was actually really good, a Tuesday night no no. On the other hand it had a lot of senseless violence, as well as a number of insensitive wise cracks from Chris Tucker, a Tuesday night standard. Like it or not, Jackie Chan is the man, and Chris Tucker is pretty damn funny. I ain't no punk bitch, I give it three stars.

I like Jackie Chan. I like Chris Tucker. Put them together, and I have to believe that you have something that could work. One has super-fast action sequences (I’ll give Chan the nod over Van Damme any day) the other has super-fast one liners. And you have to respect the fact that Tucker’s previous big performances were of a pothead named Smokey and an androgynous intergalactic DJ. So screw all the professional critics who couldn’t see past their own noses- this movie rocked! And I definitely smell a sequel down the line.

This was a pretty good movie. In fact I was rather surprised how good it was. Which is probably why I only gave it three stars. It was lacking that certain badness that marks a truly good Tuesday night movie. As always Jackie Chan is simply amazing to watch in action, particularly the scene where he fought two guys while trying to keep an ancient vase from getting broken. Chris Tucker is loud, quite possibly the loudest actor in Hollywood right now, but funny none the less. The two of them couldn't have been anymore different, which provides the movie with much of its humor. I was pleased to see that the guy from The Full Monty kept all his clothes on in this movie. Anyone want to take bets on how long it will take to get a sequel?

This film was good, probably too good for our Tuesday night crowd. This was truly a combination of actors that couldn't fail, Chris Tucker fastest (and loudest) mouth in the world and Jackie "I do my own stunts" Chan. Surely to create a sequel that will probably find our heros somewhere either on their way to Hong Kong or in Hong Kong.
