Reviews Batman This movie was one of the better ones I've seen in some time. This is the also the first time I can applaud a film and not apologize for it not being Tuesday night appropriate. To be Tuesday night appropriate, a movie should either be so stunningly bad that you laugh hysterically at it, in such astonishingly bad taste that you laugh hysterically at it, or so incredibly mean spirited that you laugh hysterically at it. Combinations of these are allowed and highly respected. Rushmore fits into the mean spirited category. The war that develops between Max and Herman over Rosemary repeatedly finds ways to top itself as each seeks revenge. Max's inherant superiority complex only adds to the theme. Bill Murray is probably at his best in this movie. His performance is incredibly restrained, particularly if you consider some of his earlier roles. He manages to be funny just with facial expressions and the ever present cigarette dangling from his lip. He was royally screwed by the Oscars. Jason Schwartzman is completely convincing as Max. I don't think I can say more than that. What else does an actor need to do? Finally Olivia Williams manages to be charming, while playing a character who isn't trying to be charming. Nice trick. Not everyone is going to like this movie. I can see people just not getting it. But who cares what they think? They're wrong. The Full Mason This movie was a little all about love. Who here didn't have a crush on a teacher at school. And don't F@#!ing lie to me about not stalking her. I mean, its all about love... and no stinking court order will separate me from Ms. R@$#%!!! Note to reader: the name of the teacher has purposely been misspelled so as to protect my love angel's identity. And if you look at her, I will kill you. Mad Matt Biscuit |
