Help us out by clicking to visit our sponsors News for May 22-26, 200026 May, 2000 What is with all the remakes lately? It seems like a day doesn't go by without word of some famous movie getting remade. Generally I hate the idea of a remake. Usually remakes are of movies you've heard of which indicates it had some degree of quality. Which begs the obvious question, "Why remake it?" The answer of course is money. So anyway, today's remake news is for the 1981 film Clash of the Titans. I realize many people didn't like this movie but I've always had a soft spot for it. IGN Movies is reporting that MGM intends to lay out some serious cash for a remake. By serious cash I mean a $100 million budget. They are looking for a big name director to run the show. Now I admit that kind of money could buy some really cool special effects but the effects in the original were pretty damn good for the time. Okay maybe the acting could be improved on too. That doesn't change the fact that it's a remake. I'm going to stop writing about this now before I talk myself out of disliking this idea. Below are what appear to be three pages from the script for the second Jurassic Park sequel. inGenNET managed to get a hold of them and say they have confirmation that they are authentic. If these are real then they are definitely spoiler material so don't read them if you don't want to know too much. 25 May, 2000 Jack Black is joining the cast of Mike Myers' movie Dieter. Black will be playing the part of Dieter's best friend. You might remember him from High Fidelity. Thanks to Popcorn.
Tomb Raider Angelina talks about her role as Lara Croft 24 May, 2000
Their website had only this to say on the issue. "This classic Jules Verne story is the special effects extravaganza from Christophe Gans, the director behind the cult picture Crying Freeman and the producers of True Romance, Killing Zoe, Speed 2 and co-producer of the Lethal Weapon series." It listed Samuel Haddida and Steve Perry as producers and no cast what so ever. According to DVD Drama, the director was quoted as saying, "The project was stopped two months before the shooting, due to "artistic divergences" about the casting with the English producers...after two years spent on the project, I had specific ideas about the actors, and I wouldn't be told by other guys who to work with two months before shooting." When asked what actors were at the center of the debate he said, "I wanted Billy Crudup and 'they' wanted to impose Keanu Reeves." 23 May, 2000 Remember, the title is Dieter, not Sprockets. Now that we've got that straight let's get to the casting news. Will Ferrell has signed on for the role of Dieter's American cousin Bob Sheeder. Dieter (Mike Myers) goes to see Bob for help after traveling to America in search of his missing monkey. Hmm... When you say it like that it sounds really stupid. Who am I kidding? It sounds stupid any way you say it. Adding Ferrell to the cast continues the practice of creative inbreeding for movies based on Saturday Night Live skits. Ferrell has appeared on the increasingly lame show for the last four years. He has also appeared in other SNL-based travesties like A Night at the Roxbury and Superstar. As if that wasn't enough he will also appear in The Ladies Man, yet another SNL spinoff movie, later this year. Thanks to Variety.
Godzilla 2000 22 May, 2000 Having trouble waking up? If so I recommend watching a new teaser trailer for Disney's 102 Dalmations. If the horror you witness still doesn't wake you up that probably means you've slipped into a coma. If the trailer for 102 Dalmations wasn't bad enough for you maybe you want to see the trailer for The Specials. It basically appears to be a cheap knockoff of last year's Mystery Men. Check it out if you dare. Jason X |
