Me, Myself & Irene
Plot:
Hank's got a problem, he's a world-class womaniser, and only one thing stands in his way; his alter ego Charlie. To make matters worse, Charlie's taking medication to suppress the fun-loving, free-spirited Hank. Can Hank save Irene, once again proving that a powerful man is often misunderstood? Or will Charlie rise to the occasion, winning her over with cheap sentimentality, when cheap wine would have worked just as well?

Check out my review of the movie

Not everyone is excited about this movie. The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill is planning a national protest against the movie. This is the same group that protested ABC's drama Wonderland earlier in the year. The organization is claiming that the movie shows "gross ignorance and insensitivity" to people with mental illnesses. It seems one of their biggest gripes is that the movie "perpetuates a myth that schizophrenia -- a severe, biologically based brain disorder -- is a split personality."
They are of course correct that the two disorders are frequently thought to be the same. In the trailer though the doctor's report on Charlie says he has a split personality, which would be correct for this film.

The full trailer for the latest pairing of Jim Carrey and the Farrelly brothers is now online. So is the poster.
What do you think of the trailer? Talk about it on the Forums

The interesting thing about the pictures that come from this movie is trying to interpret them. Take today's samples. One shows Jim Carrey holding a small child in a fountain. Now is he Charlie in this shot and therefore saving the kid or is he Hank in which case he's probably trying to drown the kid? Well that should give you something to chew on. I'm not even going to get into the second picture.

The trailer is finally out. It's rude crude and highly amusing. I recommend you check it out promptly.

Yet another new shot from the movie to check out. Click on the picture for a larger version.

A bit of news on the trailer and a bit of confusion. I've had one report that the movie will be attached to movies next week starting on March 17th. I've also had a report that the trailer is already playing and has been attached to The Cider House Rules. Which is true? Beats the heck out of me. The good news is that one way or another it should be in theaters very soon. Now if it would just hit the net...
Thanks to Tim and Ron.

Steve over at Jim Carrey Heaven checked in to tell me that the trailer for the movie was to appear on Entertainment Tonight last night. I wasn't able to catch it myself but if anyone did, we'd love to hear about it or see a digitized copy.

Lots of cool stuff on the movie for you to check out today. First off is a description of just how hard Carrey works for a scene. Thanks to Steve at the very entertaining Jim Carrey Heaven for this one.
Entertainment Weekly had a "Are They Worth It" special (several articles on actors/actresses that make 20 million dollars per shot). Or course Jim Carrey was in there. They said he is well worth his money, and because of his perfectionism. "We filmed once scene where Jim gets kicked in the face, falls over a fence and rolls down a hill," says Bradley Thomas Irene's producer. "He did it 10 times before he was satisfied. Then he calls [codirector] Peter Farrelly at 3 AM and says he thinks they should do it again to make it perfect." I found that sort of intersting, sounds like the movie will kick more ass.
Next up is a set report from Vermont. It talks about a rather energetic scene for Carrey.
I was on the set as an extra during the train station scene in Burlington, VT. I played a military passer-by when Jim leaps off the train onto the ground. I was on the set for two very full days and witnessed the entire train scene incident. Basically, after landing flat on his face after tripping off the train Jim's alter-ego, Hank, surfaces. The next few scenes are outrageous. Jim (Hank) gets an earful from Renee Zellweger; runs over to a bench and exposes himself to several older woman (one of which is the Farrelly Brother's mom); jumps through a cafe window; and gets chased by an FBI agent played by Chris Cooper. Jim narrowly escapes by hiding behind a young lady in a wheelchair and exiting the front of the train station. It was a very physical scene for Jim and was outrageously funny.
Finally, two pictures that appeared in Empire magazine. The first one shows Carrey leaping off the train as described in the set report. The second one has him apparently choking Rene Zellweger. I'm guessing he's in Hank mode when that happens.

Here's some new shots from the set of the movie. In the one on the left that's Jim Carrey on the left with something weird on his chin. Writer/directors Bob and Peter Farrelly are to his left. The next three shots are from Fox Spain's website. Unfortunately they don't expand.

Fox UK has added a tiny promo section for the movie. It includes the description now listed above under plot and a picture of Jim Carrey as the two sides of his character. Click on the picture for a larger version.

Woah, the Farrelly brothers may be pushing the limits of gross out humor even further than their previous movies. Coming Attractions got this little report on some of the things going on in the movie.
"How vulgar is it? Let's take a look at the opening sequence where Charlie (Jim Carrey) is taken over by his CRAZED split personality Hank:
-After being cut in line at a grocery store by a fat woman and her two children, Hank starts making fun of a product in the woman's cart, a bottle of VAGACIL. He asks for a price check while insulting the hell out of the woman for her medical problem.
-He insults a friend who's son is the lead in a school play with homosexual references.
-He dunks a little girl's head in a fountain after she refused to stop jump-roping in the street.
-In a sort of ad for milk, Hank is breast-fed by a mother on a park bench after he removed her baby.
-Last but not least, pissed off at the neighbor's dog always taking a crap on his lawn, Hank decides to take a crap on his neighbor's lawn.

The movie will be released on May 4, 2000. Filming finished on July 27 and is now in post production.

No news, just this single picture from the production. It looks like Jim Carrey getting his state trooper uniform on.

Today we take a look at on-set shooting of Jim Carrey's latest work. According to a Vermont local who watched part of the filming, a set of train tracks was laid down and a train was put on those tracks running by a building. Carrey was on top of the building and had to jump off onto the train as it went by. He was apparently a little nervous about making the jump as the train had to be brought back several times before he finally did it. Thanks to Dark Horizons.

Lin Shaye, who has appeared in Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin and There's Something About Mary for the Farrelly brothers, will be in their next one as well. If you've seen those movies, you know who she is. Thanks to Variety.

I've been informed that shooting is currently going on in Chittenden County, Vermont right now. The crew for the movie must be split over several locations to account for all the different reports. The filming in Chittenden County is apparently causing a fair amount disruption to residents. Roads are blocked off and some offices have had to be moved. Thanks to Lillie.

Following up on yesterday's pictures from the set, today we have a description of the shooting. The Addison County Independent had a story about the arrival of a Hollywood crew to the Vermont county of Addison. The Addison 4 Corners Store had been chosen to be a set for one scene. The owners of the store, Louie and Diane Rivers, won't appear in the movie but their dog Zak will. The scene filmed there revolved around Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger's characters stopping at the store for groceries. The black and white shot below is of Carrey getting into their car during the scene. Carrey's character confronts a group of drunken ball players hanging around the store, eventually leading to a fight, which Zak takes part in. A decent size crowd arrived to watch shooting, interupted briefly by rain. They were generally impressed by the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes of a movie.
Addison won't be the only location shoot. Middlebury will be home to a three day shoot at the Otter Creek footbridge. It will be temporarily converted into a run down railroad trestle. While the shoot should only take three days, the bridge will be closed to the public for 18 days (June 11-July 3) to allow for its conversion and restoration to its original condition. A concept sketch showed the bridge with a platform on top with cable supports. Concrete ramps would be at both ends of the bridge, with a Do Not Enter sign and barbed wire. A large pipe would run the length of the bridge. One of the footbridge's planks needs to be removed. This must have something to do with the action in that scene.
The Storm Cafe will also be used for shooting. The production needs to close down the restaurant's outside deck for three days. The owner has been negotiating with Fox for fair compensation for the inconvenience and loss of business.

A couple of pictures have surfaced from the sight of shooting in Rhode Island. The first is Jim Carrey in state trooper uniform. The second appears to be him getting into a car with Renee Zellweger, but I could be wrong. Don't click on these images, they don't get any bigger. Thanks to Dark Horizons.

Add Chris Cooper's name to the cast list. Cooper will play the role of detective Joe Sarrasin in the movie. Thanks to Variety.
5/17/99
Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) has landed the role of Jim Carrey's police captain. Thanks to Variety.
5/13/99
Shooting has begun on the Jim Carrey/Farrelly bros. movie in Rhode Island. Large crowds turned up to see the first day of shooting in Jamestown. Carrey was dressed in a Rhode Island state trooper's uniform with a crewcut and shades. The uniform is a dead ringer according to Major Harold Watson, the #2 person on the RI force. "The haircut is regulation. The glasses look regulation. If he decides to dump his movie career, we'll sign him up,'' Watson said. Thanks to Cinescape and AP.

Jimcarreyonline has posted a script review of Carrey's next movie. It's a pretty positive review, with some spoilers, but nothing major. It also makes it clear that Anthony Anderson is playing the part of all three sons, not just one. According to Variety, Traylor Howard, will play the part of Carrey's wife.
4/29/99
Anthony Anderson has accepted a part as one of Jim Carrey's three black sons. Anderson was most recently seen as the prison cook in Life.
Filming on the Farrelly brothers next movie is set to begin May 24, continuing for five or six weeks in Rhode Island before moving to Vermont in July. A casting call for extras is currently underway. Thanks to Variety and Dark Horizons.

Not every movie I cover here is going to be a bad one. Some of them will merely be in bad taste. Me, Myself and Irene promises to be such a film. Reteaming the Farrelly brothers and starring Jim Carrey from Dumb and Dumber, it tells the story of a state trooper with a split personality who forgets to take his medicine. He meets and each of his personalities falls in love with Irene. Renee Zellweger is close to starring as Irene. Filming should begin next month in Rhode Island. Thanks to Variety.
3/26/99
The Farrelly brothers and Jim Carrey appear set to reunite for a comedy about split-personality. The three last work together on Dumb and Dumber. Carrey will play a Rhode Island state trooper with a split personality. He forgets to take his medicine, leading to each of his personalities meeting and falling in love with Irene. The personalities quickly declare war on each other. The movie should be out in the spring or summer of 2000. This will push back production of Stuck On You, the Farrelly's movie about siamese twins. Thanks to Variety.

New projects from the people who brought you Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin and There's Something About Mary include:
- Say It Isn't So - story they are producing about a guy who finds out, wrongly, that his girlfriend is actually his sister.
- Me, Myself and Irene - story they are writing and producing about schizophrenia.
- Stuck On You - directing this one about siamese twins. Woody Allen was supposed to play one of the twins but this appears to have fallen through.
