Oh dear lord, this isn't a bad rumor! Disney has just put a remake of Herbie the Love Bug on the fast-track. Production could get started early next year. Anybody want to bet this has something to do with the looming actors strike? It's either that or Disney has a leak in its marble sack.

I was hoping this was just a bad rumor but it appears that a new Herbie the Love Bug movie is heading towards production. J. Max Burnett (Possums) is set to write and direct the movie. The story is about a teenager who receives Herbie as a birthday present. The boy and car don't initially get along (Hey! This sounds like one of my first cars). Eventually though they set aside their differences to become good friends.

Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott, the writing duo behind such great movies as Runaway Bride and 3 Men and a Little Lady will assist Burnett with the script.

The great thing about dealing with bad movie news is that eventually Hollywood finds ways to come up with a continuous stream of worse ideas. That explains Disney's latest idea. They want to revive the Herbie the Love Bug concept. Presumably due to the popularity of Vokswagon's New Beetle, Disney has hired an as yet unnamed screenwriter to create a script called Herbie and Millie. Millie is probably a female New Beetle who finds it in her engine to love the rusty but lovable Herbie.
