Macolm in the Middle - The Movie

File this under H for huh? Producer Linwood Boomer is busily preparing to make a movie based on its popular but still young sitcom Malcolm in the Middle for New Regency and Fox. Generally speaking, movie adaptations of TV shows occur years after the show was cancelled and star totally different actors. This one would occur while the show was still on the air and feature the original cast. That might make ensure the movie maintains the show's spirit but real question is why?

Why does this show need to head to the big screen? Much as I enjoy watching the show I can think of no compelling reason to make a movie version. Am I alone on this? Anybody out there have a reason to do it?
