MVP: Most Valuable Primate

16 August, 2000

MVP: Most Valuable PrimateWhen I first saw the poster and trailer for this movie my jaw dropped open. I was utterly stupefied by this inane concept. MVP: Most Valuable Primate is about a chimpanzee named Jack. Jack is being taken care of by Dr. Kendall who is trying to teach him to communicate with people. When the project ends, Jack is shipped off to for medical testing. Somehow he gets sent to the wrong place and ends up in Canada instead.

Jack meets a little deaf girl who takes him and naturally decides to teach him to skate. That's exactly what I would have done. Her big brother decides that Jack is a natural for hockey and adds him to his team. This of course leads to a championship and wacky hijinks as Jack avoids those evil doctor types who want him back.

I'm sure no one will be surprised that this comes from the same people who brought you Air Bud and Air Bud 2: Golden Receiver. For their next movie, expect a heartwarming story of a cat who helps lead the Olympic team to victory in synchronized swimming.

Currently playing in Canada, the movie will be released into American theaters on October 20.
