Joy Ride (2001)

A few weeks ago, I saw the worst horror movie so far this year. Today, I saw one of the best horror movies ever. Ironically, both films were fantastic when they dealt with one simple scenario: being chased by an unseen enemy on a deserted highway. Joy Ride also shares a nice blend of humor with the horror, another area where Jeepers Creepers blew ass. However, I feel that the biggest achievement in the suspense of Joy Ride consists of two things: the scares are on and off, and once they start, they don't let up and the other thing is that you never really get a clear shot of the villain. In Jeepers Creepers, the moment after you saw the villain, the movie went down hill. This is one of the best horror movies I've seen all year. Now enough praise and onto the review.

Joy Ride deals with two brothers, Lewis and Fuller (Paul Walker and Steve Zahn). Lewis picks up Fuller, the black sheep, from prison on his way to pick up his crush, Venna (Leelee Sobieski). On their way to Colorado to pick up Venna, the two brothers decide to buy a CB radio ("an old form of the internet") and they play a harsh trick on a truck driver named "Rusty Nail". On their way in for the night, the brothers encounter a major asshole and decide to set him up with trucker. Something horrible happens and the trucker comes after them. Sounds simple, but with a few turns of the screw this movie will scare the shit outta you. It's got brains and sense of humor along with the horror aspect (which doesn't rely on gore for scares, one reason which made it so much more horrifying). See this film! I cannot stress how good of a horror film this is! I LOVE IT! It probably will by on my top ten list.
