Plot:
Unknown

News:

5 December, 2002

The trailer will apparently be making its premiere on Yahoo sometime this week, approximately a week before it turns up in theaters.

Thanks to Gregg Dean Schmitz.

A production photo of Alan Cumming in full makeup as Nightcrawler has appeared over at AICN. This is apparently the real deal folks, which is kind of a shame because it looks to me like Alan Cumming with a gallon of blue paint, cheesy looking tail and funky gloves...

Daniel Cudmore has been cast in the role of Colossus. Alan Cumming has been on set trying out his makeup and duds to play Nightcrawler. Reportedly it holds pretty close to the look of the comic, including the three fingered hands.

We received the following report on the development of the film. We haven't been able to confirm everything in this report but much of it matches what is already known and we believe the source to be a reliable one.

There is no Stryker in X2 like people think and the film does not invole Sentinels. In fact it's all to do with the legacy virus and the assasination of Senator Kelly. This is a what-happened-next type film from the X-Men.

It starts with the discovery that Senator Kelly is dead and that a mutant was involved, but a mysterious mutant that appears in an art gallery with blue skin is accused.

But it seems that it's up to the X-Men to help him. But as they are discovered as mutants a swat team infiltrates the house and kidnaps the mutant students. The remaining mutant is Wolverine who was absent during this time to find his past. He returns and finds Nightcrawler. After an intro they decide to go after the swat team that did this and the only way they could do this is to get help from the one mutant that could be powerful enough to help them (Magneto). In turn Magneto recruits his new acolytes Gambit, Colossus and Pyro (a former member of Xavier's school).

They infiltrate the base where they find the mutants held captive. A mutant named Hank (Beast) is an employee of this plant and helps break the mutants out. There is a more sinister side to this, a Mr. Sinister side. The mutant named Mr. Sinister is doing mutant research in disguise as a human.

He says he's working for an important investor in his research. In the blue prints you see a mutant with metal wings on his drawing board and in one of the cells there's a Chinese girl who uses a mind dagger to try and break out.

This is the only info on the movie that I have but it was interesting. My sources must remain secret but i will tell you this. The guy (Robert Patrick) who played T9000 in the Terminator 2 (the liquidator) has been ask to play Mr. Sinister.

According to a report on Coming Attractions, Colossus, Beast and Gambit will all make cameo appearances in the film.

6 June, 2002

Hugh Jackman had a few problems with his beard for the film. He spoke to the New York Post about it saying, "I grew it for X2 which got delayed, so I shaved it off and half an hour later they called and said: 'We start June 17,' so I'm starting again, hoping it grows quickly because they asked me if I still had my beard. I said 'definitely.'"

28 May, 2002

Newcomer Aaron Stanford has been cast as the mutant Pyro in the movie. In the comics, Pyro was a villain but in the first movie he was seen as a student in Xavier's school. It remains to be seen what role he will play in this film.

Dan Harris and Mike Dougherty have been hired to assist Bryan Singer with a rewrite of the script. They'll need to hurry though. Shooting is scheduled to begin June 17th.

Rebecca Romjin-Stamos spoke to SCI FI Wire and confirmed that she will return for this sequel. "I'm excited, but I don't really know anything about it," she said. "I'm very curious to see what they come up with. I'm starting to get in shape, starting to work out a little bit and get myself ready for it. But I am curious to see what they come up with."

13 December, 2001

The North American release date has been officially set for May 2, 2003. "We feel confident in both the material and in our prep work to set a date, one that has proven in the past to be successful," said director Bryan Singer. This date gives the film a three week jump on the other big film already set for that month The Matrix Reloaded.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter.

CountingDown spoke to Tyler Mane who confirmed that he is in the sequel and looking forward to the kind of fun they had for six months in Toronto last time.

FilmForce reports that Hugh Jackman is seriously working out for his part in the movie. He has "been doing nausea-inducing strength training four or five times a week for an hour with my trainer Josh," says Jackman. "He's the guy who worked with Angelina Jolie for Lara Croft. I also do 20 minutes of hard aerobic sessions three times a week. And I eat all the time. My breakfast is oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder, an egg white omelette, low-fat baked beans, low-fat cottage cheese, a couple of slices of ham and sauteed spinach. I eat five or six times a day, but I make sure not to eat any sugar, breads or pasta."

11 December, 2001

Halle Berry appeared on MTV's TRL recently to promote her film Monster's Ball and had a few comments on the movie. "I can give you a little tidbit," Berry said. "They'll kill me, but I'm going to say it ... Storm gets a haircut."

Asked for details on the production Berry answered "...some time this spring. I don't know what the story is, all I know is that all the main X-Men are back, myself included."

Berry also confirmed that she wants to appear in the next Bond film. "My first obligation is to X-Men, of course," she said. "And they're kind of going around at the same time. If X-Men will free me for a month or so to finish up that movie, I'll get to do both."

According to both Coming Attractions and Dark Horizons, the only new mutant being considered for the sequel is that beloved blue elf Nightcrawler. For those unfamiliar with the comics, Nightcrawler is a mutant who has the ability to teleport himself and whatever he can carry across distances. He is also cursed with a devilish appearance: blue fur, glowing yellow eyes, fangs, three toed feet and three fingered hands and a tail. This will come as good news for those hoping he would appear (like me) and bad news for those rooting for Gambit and/or Beast.

Sci Fi Wire is reporting that director Bryan Singer is already hard at work on the sequel. Singer is hoping to begin filming early in 2002 with an eye towards a release date of Christmas 2002 or summer 2003.

In an interview with Popcorn he says, "I'm sort of sworn to secrecy." He would say though that fans can expect the movie to include "the comic-book lore that I adore so much and a lot of new ideas of my own."

This could be wild rumor or it could be some delightful news. 4Filmmakers.com is listing Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal, Titus) and Scott Caan (Ready to Rumble, Gone in 60 Seconds) as part of the cast. This is in addition to the returning cast members from the original movie. What roles they might play is up for debate. The site also lists Zak Penn (Last Action Hero, Reign of Fire) as the screenwriter instead of David Hayter.

CountingDown received a report on a possible plot for the movie. This is just rumor and is not confirmed at all at this point.

"I work for Twentieth Century Fox, and I've overheard certain things discussed about the X-Men sequel. I stumbled upon a few pages of the treatment; it indicated that the Sentinels are indeed in the film for now, as well as Beast. It seems from what I found that Beast is either an escapee from somewhere or an old friend of Xavier's. There were notes implying that the decision had not been made yet."

Fans of the first movie can relax. Bryan Singer has confirmed that he will be directing the sequel. Caught at the Empire Awards yesterday, singer said "I am doing the sequel to X-Men, I think its going to be called something like X-Men 2." Singer didn't have a lot of information to share on the project just yet though. "The original cast will join us again, along with some new characters. Other than that I can’t really tell you anything."

Speaking with Comics Continuum, Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios said that it is possible that this movie could start filming by the end of the year. "We hope to have the script done before the strike - or the possible strike -- then we'll start prepping it and shoot it before the end of the year," Feige said.

An announcement can be expected from Fox within a couple weeks as to the return of director Bryan Singer and writer David Hayter.

The big question is which mutants will be added to this movie? "We haven't decided yet," Feige said. "Everybody has their wish list, and then we'll put them on the reality list and then put them in the script."

Bryan Singer is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to return as director for a prequel to this year's hit X-Men. While most of the cast was signed early for a possible sequel, Singer wasn't part of that agreement.

Fox is anxious to get the sequel rolling as quickly as possible but it won't happen too quickly. There is currently no script and no projected start date. Furthermore, Singer is considering directing Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. The semi-fictional biography of Gong Show host Chuck Barris would likely be his next film.

Anna Paquin talked to Popcorn about her hopes for the sequel. "I am gonna put the word out that I want to wear the leather suits and jump around and fight and fly and do all that stuff," she says excitedly. "I think it looked like so much fun - everyone else was running around on their harnesses and looking like superheroes but I looked very much more like a civilian."

She's done her research on the subject too. "Rogue's traditional love interest in the comic book is this very suave guy on a motorbike called Gambit," she notes. "I'd love to see Gambit in the sequel. He's very attractive and I think it could be fun, although they always have a strange relationship in the comic book - they're like the tragic couple who can never be together."

11 August, 2000

In the past, Bryan Singer has said that he wanted to use Gambit and Beast as characters in a sequel. Keeping that in mind the following bit of information may just make you a bit nervous. Jean Claude Van Damme's agents are apparently lobbying hard to get him the part of Gambit.

Take a moment to compose yourself. I'll wait.

Ready? Van Damme's people are busily pestering the production, insisting that he is right for the part. Relax, he doesn't have the part. Yet... I hope.

One problem that won't be faced by the producers of an X-Men sequel is trying to convince the stars to come back. They were clearly thinking ahead and got the entire cast to sign a two picture deal. Patrick Stewart confirmed this in an interview with CNN.

However, producer Tom DeSanto and director Bryan Singer are not signed for a sequel. DeSanto told the New York Post "Hopefully Fox and Bryan and myself will work together again...We planted the seeds for the next two [sequels] in this movie, and we'd love to do another."

Weekend Box Office
July 14-16, 2000
#   $M
1 X-Men 57.5
2 Scary Movie 26.1
3 The Perfect Storm 17.5
4 The Patriot 11.0
5 The Kid 10.5
6 Chicken Run 7.8
7 Me, Myself & Irene 5.7
8 Big Momma's House 2.8
9 Gone in 60 Seconds 2.6
10 Shaft 2.5

X-Men absolutely dominated the box office in its opening weekend, raking in an estimated $57.5 million. That ranks as the fourth largest total of all time for a three day openining weekend. It was the largest opening ever for a non-sequel. The huge opening should prove a shot in the arm for sequels. Fox is hungry for a franchise and it looks like they've got one now. Two sequels are already in the planning stages and the major actors are already under contract for them.

Thanks to Variety.

As a result we're going to immediately add pages to this site to cover the planned sequels.

10 March, 2000

During a live video chat hosted by the official site, Famke Janssen, who played Jean Grey in the original movie, expressed a desire to do a sequel based on the Dark Phoenix storyline.

1 March, 2000

Director Bryan Singer talked about making the movie at the Script to Screen conference last weekend. He made mention of a sequel.

"In doing X-Men, what's appealing to me, is not just that's its more complex and odd than most of these comic books tend to be, but it's also the first. So you can kind of explore, you can say this is mine, for better or worse, there'll be something original in this at least for you."
