Vanilla Sky (2001)

Plot:  Remake of the 1997 film Abre los ojos which also starred Penelope Cruz. It's about a man in a horrible car accident that horribly disfigures his face.

It pays to be in the right place at the right time. Figure skater Tara Lipinski was taking a break from the tour to try out for a part in the new Susan Sarandon-Goldie Hawn film, . She didn't get the part but while she was at it she dropped by the Vanilla Sky set. While there she was spotted by director Cameron Crowe who instantly added her to the cast. He quickly added a scene to the movie and had Lipinski and Cameron Diaz improvise a scene on the spot. "It was awesome," says Lipinski. "Almost Famous was one of my favorite movies."

Kurt Russell is in final negotiations to join Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz in Vanilla Sky for director Cameron Crowe.

Crowi is adapting the 1997 Spanish film Abre los Ojos, which originally starred Cruz. The story is that of a wealthy young man who has a way with the ladies. He falls in love with the girlfriend of his best friend. He is in a horrible car accident with a former girlfriend, killing her and horribly disfiguring his face. His new love stays with him as he is slowly reconstructed by doctors.

Russell will be playing the second male lead.

Cameron Diaz (Charlie's Angels) is close to signing on to the cast of writer/director Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky. She would be co-starring opposite Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible 2) and Penelope Cruz (All the Pretty Horses) in the love story.

Diaz is currently in Rome, about to start filming Gangs of New York for director Martin Scorsese. She would likely film Vanilla Sky after that.

The movie reteams Crow and Cruise for the first time since the hit Jerry Maguire.
