Dina Meyers and Steven Culp have joined the cast of the movie according to The Hollywood Reporter.. Furthermore the official site is announcing that Ron Perlman has joined the cast. He will reportedly play the Viceroy, a mentor to Shinzon, who cared for him during his youth on Remus, the Romulan sister world. The Viceroy is "Nosferatu-like," with a horrifying appearance that includes long, grotesque fingernails. The Viceroy is also telepathic and helps Shinzon invade Counselor Troi's mind at one point in the film, TrekWeb reported.

Empire Online got a chance to talk to Tom Hardy during the British premiere of Black Hawk Down. How does Hardy describe his villainous character, the Picard-clone Shinzon? "He’s bitter, very bitter. He’s like a clone. It’s kind of the Prince and the Pauper. It’s what happens when you put the same person through a different course of life." Hardy also mentioned that the makeup department would be working overtime on this film. "I’ve got some very tall vampires to look after that’s all I’m saying."

According to the official site, shooting began November 26 on location around Palmdale and Lancaster north of Los Angeles with much of the original cast on hand. Shooting then moves to the Paramount lot for three months for scenes on the Enterprise-E. December shooting will use sets including sickbay, the crew lounge, engineering, the bridge and the weapons locker.

Well here's a shocker for you. Will Wheaton is going to appear in the movie. That's right. According to ol' Wesley himself, Paramount offered him the role after LeVar Burton suggested it to producer Rick Berman. Burton and Wheaton had talked when the two appeared on the show Weakest Link.

"He said to me that I should be in the movie, especially since it's going to be the last TNG movie. I told him that I would love to be in it, but I really thought that Berman and company really didn't like me. He seemed surprised, and he told me that he was going to call Rick the next morning, and suggest to him that I be in the movie, at least as a cameo. I thought that would be really cool, and told him so," says Wheaton.

He goes on to say that his agent contacted him soon after to tell him of the offer. Berman was reportedly "very pleased" to get Wheaton in the picture. Go figure.

Our favorite spy 'Agent Payne' stopped by to drop off a review of this movie's script. Just beware of some major spoilers in the review. According to Variety, the film has now officially been given the greenlight by Paramount. Shooting will start November 28, looking for a late 2003 release.

"First off, my condolences to everyone that lost somebody in the attacks two weeks ago. Give some money to www.tributetoheroes.org. A shout out to my boy DeadPool. It doesn't feel right not being in your column bro... On with the show:

I could feel it in my bones, the need to write, to lay the SMACKDOWN on all those bad scripts I've been reading for a while. But my ego had been broken by some crazed We Were Soldiers fan. Screw him, her or whatever that thing was. I'M BACK with a vengeance. To begin my onslaught upon the cinematic community, here's my two cents on Star Trek: Nemesis written by John Logan.

A clone of Professor Charles Xavier... I mean Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) created by the Romulans was discarded and sent to the mines on Remus. Turns out, the Remans are the slaves of the Romulans and the kid was almost left for dead. Cue Twenty years later, the kid, Shinzon (Jude Law Hopefully) kills the entire Romulan Senate and makes himself Praetor(Emperor). His plan is to destroy the Federation. (How original!) Meanwhile Picard and his crew are on their way to celebrate Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis)'s wedding. On an abandoned planet, they discover B-9, an android. He's a sort of retarded version of Data (Brent Spiner). The Enterprise is then sent to Romulus to meet Shinzon, who says he wants to begin peace process with the federation. The rest follows Shinzon's quest to destroy Earth and capture Picard, who holds the key to his own personal survival. Unfortunately, that doesn't include any nude Betazed wedding scenes...

All you whiny internet bitches have been crying about this script. I ask the question: WHY??? The June draft I read was like the biggest action packed Trek film in history. What's wrong with that? More BANGS for bucks then that Seven of Nine's rack.(Isn't it cool she's joining Boston Public?) With Stuart Baird at the helm, this once will blow the roof off. Like most Trek films, we've got some new gadgets. Those are S-W-E-E-T! Spider-like destructive weapon, a portable single-person transporter and a futuristic Starfleet tank-like vehicle. The plot does needs a little polish but they have not set a shooting date, so this is not a serious problem. Everything could be fixed by then. The Enterprise-E takes one hell of a beating in this one. SPOILERS I seriously thought they were gonna pull the plug on it. Surprisingly, the E-ship is sent to a docking bay at the end for SERIOUS repairs. Ouch! It was a little too early to kill that ship, since we've only seen it in two flicks. It would be interesting though, to feature a Trek film without an Enterprise vessel. (Kind of like Star Trek IV. Which was one of the most entertaining and different Trek films ever.) END SPOILERS

If Jude Law doesn't play Shinzon, forget about this movie. This movie needs him. I cannot imagine anyone else playing that role. The rumors of Craig T. Nelson playing the evil Viceroy is truly bizarre. It's hard to believe that 'Coach' would be a menacing grotesque Reman. Let's talk about the TNG crew. Once again, Picard is running the show. His character has been the focus of the last three films and it continues. Stewart, a master thespian, will breeze through this film. It would be very interesting, if the focus of the next film will switch to someone else beside him. Data, the Spock of TNG if you get my drift, is the most important supporting character again. Deanna Troi gets third billing, with a very chilling story-arc with the Reman Viceroy. She had been mostly window dressing for the last three films, now she's got a little more beef to play with. She's easy on the eyes too, which is a good bonus. Worf, the most developed character from TNG-supporting cast members, is mostly useless in this film. Ditto Geordi and Dr. Crusher. Very few cameos, perhaps a big one at the end if they pick a good actor to become Picard's new First Officer. Admiral Janeway makes a good brief appearance.

Don't count this one out just yet. It could surprise and reinvigorate the franchise next year. If they don't screw it up..."

Coming Soon! is reporting that Sean Connery is being considered for the role of Shinzon, the movie's villain.

Meanwhile, over at AICN, Moriarty got a hold of the movie's script for review. He also has a review of the MIB2 script but of course we did that here a month ago. Here's a tidbit of the Trek review:

Having said all of that, I’m encouraged by the direction STAR TREK: NEMESIS seems to be heading. The screenplay by John Logan, from a story by Logan, Rick Berman, and Brent Spiner, is compellingly built, and if this turns out to be the last NEXT GENERATION installment in the series, as has been rumored, it’s a great place to leave these characters. There is a sense of closure for them, even if the film allows for an open ending.

The film opens with a credit sequence that sets up the film’s central mystery. We see molecules being manipulated, genes being spliced. We see a meeting of the Romulan senate, a three year old human boy standing before them, alone and scared. We see the surface of the Reman homeworld, sister planet to Romulus, cloaked entirely in shadow, where the boy is led down into the fiery mines after one last look up at the stars overhead. The images are stark and simple, and when they pay off later in the script, I’d even describe them as haunting.

Dark Horizons received a report of comments made by Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn at a recent convention. Sirtis claimed that none of the major characters die. She said that the romance between Riker and Troi will be continued. That fits with rumors of their wedding opening the movie. She also said that Troi will get a chance to pilot the Enterprise again. Furthermore Kate Mulgrew is up for a cameo appearance in the movie. She would probably be the only Voyager cast member in the movie as Jeri Ryan wasn't able to appear due to previous commitments.

MovieHeadlines scored a major scoop by getting a hold of the script for this movie to review. The review is generally positive. It does contain some spoilers but none of a particularly large variety.

"Meanwhile, past the neutral zone, on the Romulan sister planet of Reman, it’s defacto leader is about to make a bold move to challenge the Romulan rule. You see, Reman is kind of the Romulans ugly step-child. Half the planet is in sunlight all the time, and half is in the dark. Because the light side is way too hot, all the planets inhabitants stay in the dark all the time. They also are slaves to the Romulan’s, working in the Dilithium crystal mines. Their bold leader, Shinzon thinks his planet has too long taken a backseat to the Romulans, without any say in their planet’s future, and their dealings with the Federation."

Coming Attractions offered up an interesting little rumor. This is a potentialy massive spoiler so skip to the next story if you don't want to know too much.

It would appear that Leonard Nimoy may be directing the movie. He was briefly listed on IMDb in that role. Further more, he might be reprising his role as Spock. It could make sense. The movie reportedly involves the Romulans and Spock was last seen working underground trying to reunite the Vulcans and Romulans.

Over on Trek Today, they are reporting that the production is using the title Nemesis for the movie right now. This of course could change. They also state that the movie opens on the wedding of William Riker and Deanna Troi in Alaska. Captain Picard is serving as Riker's best man.

Producer Rick Berman spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the movie. Mostly he reiterates what we already knew but this time added that cloning would somehow be involved in the story.

Screenwriter John Logan talked to the official website about the movie. He's a huge fan of the series and is subsequently feeling a lot of pressure. "I find this incredibly exciting but it carries a lot of responsibility," says Logan. "I have such love and such respect for these characters, and I feel that I owe them a lot. So I want to treat them right."

The Enterprise crew will have to face aliens both new and familiar. Principle among them will be the Romulans. Also on tap is a villain the likes of which we haven't seen since Khan in the second movie. "Picard needs an adversary or a foe that is up to his level. That's why James Bond should always fight Blofeld; that's his adversary," says Logan. "We hope this adversary will be every bit as memorable not only for who he is, but how and why he behaves as he does."

Star Trek Communicator had some interesting bits of information for us. Rick Berman confirms that Brent Spiner is working on the script but adds that the movie isn't specifically about Data. "It's not the reason Brent joined us in the story process, but there certainly is a wonderful arc for Data in this movie."

As for what sort of movie it is Berman says, "I think this film is a bit more light-hearted and more action-oriented. In a nutshell, it's a rip-roaring adventure with a lot of humor."

Expect the production to get under way next year with hopes of releasing the movie in 2002.

Thanks to 'Tanner.'

27 October, 2000

According to USA Today, Patrick Stewart has officially signed on to the movie. It further states that the movie likely won't go into production until after the anticipated writer/actor strikes next summer.

Unspecified rumors:

From various sources the word has come that Brent Spiner, who plays the android Data, thinks his character should be killed off soon. The reason is simple. Spiner is getting older and it's going to get a lot harder to hide that fact. Data isn't an organic creature and thus shouldn't show signs of age. They could get around that problem by killing him off. Since Spiner is working on the script there could be a lot of weight to this rumor.
