Claire Danes talked to SCIFI Wire about her role in the film. "She is a veterinarian who's engaged to a conservative, pleasing-to-the-folks kind of man. And she is abducted by the Terminator. John Connor-who is played by Nick Stahl, a really wonderful actor-[comes to her aid], and our adventures unfold. We attempt to fight evil. We do. We give it a good shot. It was neat. Jonathan Mostow, the director, is a really good action director. He understands suspense and tension. It's going to be tight. It's going to be a really cool, fast chase." She also indicates if a T4 goes ahead, she'll be back: "I've contracted to do one again. If audiences would like to see more of me doing this kind of thing, I'm obliged to give it to them. But I don't know if I'm going to make it a habit to pursue every other kind of movie franchise that's out there. I really love doing as many different kinds of work as possible."

The Untitled Deadpool Column today features a review of the early script for this film. It's a negative review that does contain spoilers so be careful reading it. Here's a taste:
Are we better off with a Terminator 3, I can't help wondering as I write this fiercely negative review? Obviously, I have no answer to that question, but I remain hopelessly optimistic. There are elements of this storyline that work, or at least could work with a bit more logic infused into them. For example, there has been much ballyhoo about how Arnold will switch sides sporadically through the film. This concept isn't present here, but the impetus is. This Terminator was sent back to make sure John didn't do anything stupid - it could be totally cool to watch the Terminator threaten John with physical violence every time makes a mistake, and then protecting him again once it's been rectified. That may not be the justification in the final draft, but it is introduced as one here.

The first image, although not a very impressive one, of the female Terminator is online at Countingdown. The thing looks like a video game to me...
14 May, 2002
CountingDown took a visit to the set and got a few interesting tidbits out of Arnie, "It's fun and it is a big responsibility at the same time because people expect this movie obviously to be as good if not better than the second one, and the first one" he says. "So the good thing about this is that Hollywood -- the whole industry -- is in a mood for making the sequels better than the originalsS whereas in the old days, just ten to twenty years ago, it was just like a hit-and-run thing where they throw a bit of money at something, and say, 'Let's make some money out of that and bow out.' Now they're making them much differently, they're making them in a quality way, they hire good people, the best in the business in every department, and spend the money on it."
Jonathon Mostow also had some thoughts. "[Making T3] is a little like a through-the-looking-glass experience, it's just... fun! This is the most fun I've ever had coming to a set every day... [Arnold] is a delight to work with and you see why this guy - how some guy [who] arrives with a gym bag and two dollars in his pocket got to where he got to. Just completely focused on what he has to do. I'm not about to go tell Arnold how to play the Terminator because he's been doing it for twenty years and he does great. If he does something that I think is like, wrong for The Terminator, I'll tell him but that hasn't happened because I always joke with him I say it feels like I'm making the movie of the Bible and I've got Moses playing the central character. He's so dialled into this role ... often I sit there watching it like, I cant believe I'm not having to pay eight bucks and just watch him do this stuff."

Latino Review reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger has stated that Linda Hamilton will reprise her character of Sarah Connor in the upcoming sequel.
"She is in the movie as flash backs, but they felt like they didn't want the exact same cast and be limited with the story, but take certain people out," Schwarzenegger said at the Friday press junket for Collateral Damage. "Let's just assume that she died already and he (John Connor) is on his own rather than his mother whining away (laughing). They felt like you know John Connor is 22-23 years old his mother died and his is alone and lets move on."
On Access Hollywood last week, Schwarzenegger stated that his character would be another Terminator. This one is defective and swaps sides repeatedly. He also claims that shooting begins April 15.

A casting call for "Terminator 3" has been released, and if this holds up, it looks like rumors of Edward Furlong not returning are true.
Dark Horizons reports the following character breakdowns for the new 'Terminator' film:
John Connor: The character is now in his early 20's, a haunted and reluctant hero not trusting that everything has been set right.
Kate: Same age as John, a medical professional of some kind that's warm, physical and smart - one who can hold her own with the guys.
T-X-: Female in her 20's, the new Terminator whose sexy, composed and deadly. Actress requires demonstratable athletic skill. No details as to the character itself or its capabilities
Brewster: A scientific-background military man in his 40's/50's - a thoughtful, strong leader who has earned the respect of those around him.
Scott: Mid-20s/Early-30s young man with good looks, charm and attempting to make a stable future for him and his fiancee.
Gossip columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacey Smith report that due to Furlong's legal troubles, including drug usage and abuse, his involvement with the project was dropped.

The bidding war is over according to Variety. And the winner is.... Warner Bros. The film will cost between $165 million and $180 million. ($CHA-CHING$).
10 December, 2001
A bidding war has erupted among Hollywood studios for the North American distribution rights to this film. At this point there is no deal but it appears that DreamWorks and Paramount are the frontrunners. Budget estimates have ranged from $155 million to $170 million. Schwarzenegger would see something like $30 million for his involvement.

The following rumor is almost certainly false. But I've found that sometimes the best way to get these things killed is to post it and wait for reaction. So here's the word from the ever friendly 'Baldric.'
According to the Guardian UK, Edward Norton will be playing John Connor, replacing Edward Furlong. Huh? Why?

According to Variety, Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a guaranteed payday of $30 million for "Terminator 3". Also nearly all of the major studios are scrambling for U.S. distribution and video rights to the film which is expected to start shooting in April. Industry sources maintain "Terminator 3" will have a production budget well above $170 million, making it easily the most expensive movie ever greenlit. (Surpassing "Pearl Harbor's" $140 budget). WOW!!

The role of female cyborg death machine is still up for grabs. Famke Janssen (X-Men) has turned down the role according to her official newsletter. Still being considered for the role are Peta Wilson, Natasha Henstridge and the wrestler Chyna.

It looks like a replacement has finally been found for James Cameron at the helm of this project. Jonothan Mostow (U-571) is in negotiations to direct the second Terminator sequel. He would be working from a script by Tedi Serafian that reportedly features Schwarzenegger's T-800 cyborg battling a brand new indestructable female cyborg.

According to Variety it appears that Famke Janssen (X-Men, Goldeneye) is the front runner to play the new high tech female Terminator in the movie. Considering her role as the villain Xenia Onatopp in Goldeneye, I have no problem seeing her in this role what so ever.

Cinema Confidential got to talk to Schwarzenegger and asked him a few questions about the movie.
Question: Where do we stand on the "Terminator" sequel?
Arnold: I would say that "Terminator 3" is being written right now. There is a finished script and it's being rewritten and finalized.
Question: Obviously, Jim Cameron [the director of "Terminator"] has said that he didn't want to do a T3 and I thought you weren't going to do it without him, so what's happened?
Arnold: Changed my mind.
Question: And what changed your mind?
Arnold: The script was really good and I thought that it ought to be made. Cameron explained it very well that he has too many other things that he's planning on and that he doesn't want to do it right now. That was it. I totally understand his point of view and we're such good friends, that we understand each other's point of views and totally respect them.

Things are starting to look pretty serious in the effort to creat a third Terminator movie. It was previously announced that Arnold Schwarzenegger had agreed to star. Now Edward Furlong, who played the young John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, has agreed to reprise his role.
A director to replace James Cameron, who passed on the project, hasn't been named yet. There is also no word on whether Linda Hamilton or Robert Patrick would reprise their roles.
The movie is expected to be about the future war between man and machine that was avoided due to the events in T2. Furlong's character leads the rebel human forces in their quest to survive.

Adding some detail to yesterday's story, Arnold Schwarzenegger has officially signed on to the project. It will start filming in spring 2001 with an eye towards being released in summer 2002. Schwarzenegger is trying hard to convince James Cameron to join the project as well. Cameron has earlier stated that he would have no part of this project. Originally he planned to make it his next movie for Fox and had a clearly developed idea of its direction. However when producers Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna snapped up the rights in Carolco Pictures bankruptcy auction, Cameron lost interest. It's now possible that he could be convinced to rejoin if Fox takes the film's domestic distribution.
Vajna and Kassar had this to say in a statement. "We've been working long and hard to bring 'Terminator' back to the screen and to have Arnold aboard. This project reunites a team that has had fantastic success, and we look forward to working together again on this much anticipated project."

Arnold Schwarzennegger told Access Hollywood that he wants to return for Terminator 3. This runs contrary to earlier reports that had the actor spurning the franchise that helped make him a huge star. He said, "We'll make an announcement soon," he says. "It's all a matter of the script, the director and all of those kinds of things."
Schwarzennegger went on to say, "I like the idea, but it's not only me. I always go by what the people out there in the world would like to see. If I go to Russia, when I was in China or when I go anywhere in Europe or Africa, it's the most asked question, 'Will you do another Terminator?'"
He originally had said he didn't want to do another Terminator film because director James Cameron wouldn't be involved. In this interview he said, "My big wish is Jim Cameron and I [will] work together again." His best chance might be with a sequel to the 1994 hit True Lies. He said, "A script is being written as we speak and it's a film that Jim will definitely produce. If he will direct it or not, I don't know yet because he never makes up his mind until the script is all done and perfect."
