Apparently the plan is to make the sequel based on the Showtime series Stargate SG-1 rather than on the original movie. The cast of the TV show would also be used instead of the cast from the movie. That means no Kurt Russell.
This news comes by way of series stars Don Davis and Teryl Rothery at the "Best of Both Worlds" convention in Australia last week. They both claim to have been approached for roles in the movie. It would start filming in October, following the wrap of shooting on the show's fifth season.
10 November, 2000
MGM announced that it had placed a sequel to the surprise sci-fi hit Stargate on the fast track along with a movie version of the series The Outer Limits and a remake of the Peter Sellers' comedy The Pink Panther. Despite being on the fast track, fans shouldn't expect to see the movie until 2002. There was no word on if it would be a direct sequel to the 1994 movie or a continuation of the currently running television series.
