According to Variety, DreamWorks is looking to release this film late November 2004, in other words, right in the middle of one of Disney's favorite times to release an animated film.

Martin Scorsese has gotten involved with this project although not in his normal role of director. He will be part of the voice talent for the film instead. Scorsese will be voicing Sykes, a pufferfish.

James Gandolfini has joined the voice cast of DreamWorks' computer animated comedy Sharkslayer. He will be playing a role similar to his Sopranos' role, the head of an organized crime family. The difference is that this organization is literally made up of sharks.
The film is in pre-production right now. Eric "Bibo" Bergeron (The Road to El Dorado) and Vicky Jenson (Shrek) will direct. The cast also includes Will Smith, Angelina Jolie and Renee Zellwegger.
