Shooting moved to the campus of John Hopkins University recently, according to the college's April 15th Gazette.
The production crew for the upcoming major motion picture Red Dragon invaded the Johns Hopkins at Eastern campus last week, using the site's vast parking deck as a base of operations for three days while filming nearby. Roughly 20 trailers were parked at Eastern, where cast and crew lunched.
Today, the production moves over to the Homewood campus, where nine parking spaces in K-Lot, located behind Shriver Hall, are needed to accommodate a light-equipped Condor, described by a crew member as "a cherry picker on steroids." The machinery will be used for scenes shot that day in the adjacent Baltimore Museum of Art.

It doesn't sound like things are going smoothly in this film's production if rumors are to be believed. According to Lights Out, Harvey Keitel walked off the set recently. He was apparently fed up with the bickering between director Brett Ratner and star Edward Norton. Keitel was playing the role of Jack Crawford.

According to People News, CGI wizardry will be employed to make Anthony Hopkins appear younger. Since this film is set before Silence of the Lambs, it's important that Hopkins look a bit younger than he does now. The report also indicates that director Brett Ratner will be meeting with Ralph Fiennes about playing the part of serial killer Francis Dollarhyde.

Here's an interesting tidbit from our new friend 'Baldric.'
Foster might be doing a cameo for Ratner's "Red Dragon". Expect an announcement shortly on whether or not she says yay or nay. Nothing more than a hi and bye in a corridor - but Foster is open to the idea; and loves the script.

Our own Deadpool got a hold of the script for review. Here's a taste:
The opening to this movie is fantastic. We begin with dinner at the Lecter Mansion where the guests are eating succulent amuse-bouche. Unknown to them is that they're made from human flesh but still exceptionally delicious. After the guests leave, Graham comes to see Lecter seeking help with his case. Something in his head clicks and the face-off between the two is magnificent. From that point on, Lecter is the sidekick, the messed-up Yoda-like figure to Graham's hero. Incarcerated for most of the film, he can't do much but he's still crucial to the plot. A very good role for Sir Hopkins, but it would make no sense for MGM to pay for 20 millions for two weeks of work.

Despite earlier rumors that Anthony Hopkins would not be appearing as Hannibal Lecter in the Red Dragon remake, it now appears to be a strong possibility. Hopkins is in negotiations with Universal Pictures to reprise the Lecter role for a third movie. His decision will be dependant on the script.
Ted Tally, who wrote the screenplay for Silence of the Lambs, has been brought in to adapt Thomas Harris' novel. Brett Ratner (The Family Man, Rush Hour) will be directing the movie.
The original movie, Manhunter, followed detective Will Graham as he tracked down a serial killer with the aid of Lecter. Graham is the FBI agent who put Hannibal in prison in the first place. In this remake the story will pick up as Graham is catching Hannibal.

Ryan Rotten, over at Creature Corner got a hold of Ted Tally's screenplay based on the novel Red Dragon. It appears that it will play out a bit differently than Michael Mann's version of the story.
The story begins on an exciting note delivering fans what they've always wanted to see: Will Graham's capture of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Ridley Scott's HANNIBAL gave us a taste (pun intended) of Lecter's true nature, a sophisticated man with sophisticated tastes, but at the heart he was an animal. RED DRAGON's opening sequence gives us the animal who knows he's being put in a cage. Ruthless. Deadly. Unpredictable. Let me just say Will doesn't come away unscathed. It's an exciting scene and it's too bad I had to cut through 90 pages of rehash to get to something fresh.

While Hopkins may be up for a sequel to Hannibal, he's not interested in a remake of Manhunter. So that leaves the role open for a younger actor. The first rumor to put a name to that role says that Jude Law would be the front runner. Take that with a grain of salt. Or some fava beans. Whatever works for you.

You have not seen the last of Hannibal Lecter. In a press conference at the Berlin Film Festival to present Hannibal, Anthony Hopkins talked about another movie. "I would like to do one more, a sequel, which is being discussed," he said, wearing the black dinner jacket from the grotesque final scene of the movie. "Hopefully that will be fairly soon, I don't know, maybe next year."
Plans have been underway for some time now to remake Manhunter under the original title Red Dragon. Now apparently there are plans for a sequel as well as the Red Dragon prequel.

Not many people realize that Silence of the Lambs was a sequel of sorts. The first movie was Manhunter and was based on Richard Harris' novel Red Dragon. Directed by Michael Mann (The Insider), the movie starred Brian Cox as Hannibal Lecter. Dino De Laurentiis, who produced Manhunter, would like to take another stab at it.
"Red Dragon is about the crime Hannibal Lecter committed and the way he was arrested," Dino De Laurentiis tells the Hollywood Reporter. "Hannibal Lecter escaped in Silence of the Lambs, and in Hannibal, you see him in a new situation in Florence [Italy]. The audience would like to know--once and forever--why, where and by whom Hannibal Lecter was arrested. This new version has parts of the book never seen before."
Ted Tally, who wrote the screenplay for Silence of the Lambs, has been hired to adapt Harris' novel. Apparently Anthony Hopkins has indicated that he would be interested in reprising Lecter one more time if he likes the script. Barring a strike by the WGA or SAG, production could start as early as July 2001.
