David Twohy, the writer-director of the original film, is back on the project. He also committed to two more sequels. He pitched it to the studio and they went for the idea of not just one but up to three follow-ups. Twohy says: 'We'll give Riddick multiple adversaries on different levels. We think of Pitch Black like Mad Max was to Road Warrior, or The Hobbit was to Lord of the Rings. They were places to find one of your characters, enabling you to take them to different places in subsequent films.' Of course the following installments will depend on the success of The Chronicles of Riddick. This film will apparently begin shooting at the end of this year. The studio passed on scripts from David Hayter and Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman before giving back the creative control to Twohy.

Pitch Black World talked to Vin Diesel's production company, One Race Pictures who mentions the current status of Diesel's projects in the works: "We are shooting Triple X, we start shooting The Chronicles of Riddick PB2 in June I believe. As for Knockaround Guys, I don't know what the studio is going to do as you know Vin has a small part in that movie it's not his film. XXX comes out on July 26th or August 2nd. I think it's the 2nd. Diablo comes out in the fall of 2002".

Vin Diesel is going to be a very busy man. He just signed a two picture deal with New Line Cinema to star in Diablo and a second undecided movie. Somewhere in there he will have to squeeze in Pitch Black 2, the sequel to his sci-fi adventure from earlier this year.
This is in addition to his work on Redline, a movie about racing with director Rob Cohen for Universal. Before that comes out in April 2001, we'll see him in Knockaround Guys with John Malkovich and Dennis Hopper in January.

David Hayter, fresh off the highly successful X-Men, gets to sink his teeth into some more genre material. Universal Pictures has hired him to write a script for Pitch Black 2. The original, writtena and directed by David Twohy was released earlier this year, proving fairly successful. The star of that film, Vin Diesel, is already on board to star in the sequel.
Hayter has also been asked by Universal to try his hand at rewriting their script for The Incredible Hulk. Based on the long running Marvel comic book, Hulk follows scientist Bruce Banner, who was accidently blasted by gamma rays during a nuclear test. Now when ever he gets mad he transforms into an unintelligent raging beast with superhuman strength. Hayter appears a good choice considering his success with translating X-Men from the comics to the big screen.
