Eva Mendes is in negotiations to join Denzel Washington in this film's cast. The two previously worked together on Training Day, with Mendes playing Washington's mistress.

Production is set to begin on the film May 15.

Denzel Washington has joined the ranks of actors receiving monstrous paydays. He will receive $20 million to appear in the thriller Out of Time. The picture reunites Washington with director Carl Frankin, who directed him in Devil in a Blue Dress. He will play a small town sheriff in Florida who suddenly finds himself caught in an awkward situation with two women.

"The tone of this film is lighter than Denzel's last two films, but it is smart, fun and has [blockbuster] potential," said MGM production president Alex Gartner.

Production begins in May with the intention of releasing the film in 2003.
