The Lone Ranger (200?)
Plot: A masked vigilante wanders the American West, seeking revenge for his slain comrades. Based on the popular 1950s TV series.

Columbia Pictures has bought the rights to The Lone Ranger. It was once one of TV's most popular series in the 1950s. The studio intends to freshen the idea for modern audiences, in much the same manner that they revamped Zorro in 1998. That could possibly even include making Tonto a woman. The studio is estimating a budget in the $70 million range.
The original story was that Texas Ranger John Reid was ambushed and then nursed back to health by Tonto. He then puts on a mask and heads out to avenge the deaths of the men riding with him at the time of the ambush. He would ride the West as a vigilante, never accepting payment for the help he gave others. He can do this because of a silver mine he inherited from one of the slain men. That also affords him plenty of metal for his trademark silver bullets.
Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher will produce the film. At this point, no directors or actors are on board the project.
