20th Century Fox is planning a big screen adaptation of Isaac Asimov's classic story I, Robot. Alex Proyas is set to direct. Will Smith is in negotiations for the lead.
Asimov's stories told of the development of robots from primitive machines to sophisticated entities. He laid down the three rules of robot behavior that would influence sci-fi immensely for years.
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
The movie centers on a police officer who is called in to investigate a murder. He believes the murderer was a robot and the investigation uncovers a massive conspiracy.
