Hearts in Atlantis (2001)

Plot: The movie is set during the Vietnam war and is about a fatherless young boy. His mother takes in a mysterious boarder who is being hunted by men in yellow coats. Things get interesting when the boy discovers the book Lord of the Flies. It was by Stephen King remember, so this shouldn't sound too strange.

I've just posted up my own review of the movie. It's a solidly built movie but not as good as I had hoped from reading the script. You can find the review here.

We've just posted up a review of the script. This copy was dated April 2000 by William Goldman. You can find the entire review here.

'Lazarus' over at Movie Mania wrote in to show off the brand new poster for this movie. It's a simple yet effective poster that teases more than it informs.

It was also announced that the movie would premiere at this year's Toronto Film Festival in September. It will go into wide release on September 28.

A Richmond, Virginia local managed to find the set of Anthony Hopkins latest project. The movie is based on the Stephen King novel Hearts in Atlantis and has been shooting in Richmond, Virginia Beach and Staunton recently. This is the second movie this year for Hopkins in the central Virginia area, the first being Hannibal. Click on any of the pictures below to see the entire collection of photos taken at the set on Franklin Street.

It would appear that Anthony Hopkins is going to be spending quite a bit of time in Richmond, Virginia this year. A rumor has been floated to me that says that Richmond is very close to being a primary location for filming of Hearts in Atlantis based on the novel by Stephen King. Hopkins, currently filming Hannibal in Richmond, is apparently seriously considering a part in the film.

The script is by William Goldman (Misery) and will be directed by Scott Hicks (Shine). The movie is set during the Vietnam war and is about a fatherless young boy. His mother takes in a mysterious boarder who is being hunted by men in yellow coats. Things get interesting when the boy discovers the book Lord of the Flies. It was by Stephen King remember, so this shouldn't sound too strange.

Expect to hear an official announcement on this in about a week.

Stephen King's material is being adapted for the big screen yet again. Stax managed to get a hold of William Goldman's script based on the book Hearts in Atlantis which will be directed by Scott Hicks.

This screenplay adaptation of Hearts in Atlantis combines the nostalgic coming of age elements of Stand By Me with the supernatural awe and dramatic resonance of The Green Mile. It will certainly be one of the better Stephen King movies should it be produced. There really wasn't much of anything that I disliked about this script. It was a well-told and gripping tale about innocence lost and of new beginnings. Goldman's script was a real page-turner; I found myself unable to stay away from it for too long. I am very excited now to see how the final film eventually turns out. I just hope that Scott Hicks interprets the material with understatement and grace; applying a velvet touch would be a far smarter approach with such a delicately told story.
