New picture time. No, new not nude. Freaking perverts. Anyway, Bloody Disgusting has two new photos of makeup tests and let me tell you, they are major league spoilers. DO NOT CLICK the link if you want any kind of surprise in the film. Seriously.

Entertainment Weekly indicates "The film will open with Freddy trapped in hell, sending Jason to Elm Street to resume his chopping spree, but Jason is not that easy to deal with". The action shifts to Camp Crystal Lake, and "don't expect a clear cut victor".

It's on. New Line Cinema has finally given the greenlight to this much anticipated horror matchup. Ronny Yu (Formula 51) will direct. Robert Englund will reprise his role as Freddy Kreuger. Brad Renfro will also appear in the film. As of yet, no one has been cast for the part of Jason Voorhees. Kane Hodder has occupied the role for the last several films. Filming is set to begin September 9 in Vancouver for a 2003 release.

Kane Hodder, the man who has played Jason in several films including this one, talked to Wicked magazine about the Jason X. In case you're wondering, he wants to see Freddy vs Jason made too. "I'm sure it will happen, and I definitely want to do it because that would be something that the fans have really been waiting for. I think it would be fun to kick Freddy's ass."

Robert Englund, the actor who played Freddy Krueger in all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, took part in an online chat on TWEC. He had a few things to say about the fate of the long awaited slasher battle royale.
Q: Robert, is there going to be a FREDDY VS. JASON movie?
Robert Englund: MOST DEFINITELY. Don't worry. The powers that be want this to be done right. They've already been in bed with, and consulted with, talents as diverse as Rob Bottin, the great special effects creator, as a potential director. Here is your scoop: As we talk tonight, the newest draft of FREDDY VS. JASON is being readied by the screenwriter of one of my favorite films of two years ago, BLADE. So scream it out on the Internet - the screenwriter of BLADE is now doing the final draft of FREDDY VS. JASON. I have been promised by the absolute power at New Line Cinema that we are going to start, at least in pre-production, in February! So we might have a Freddy 2000.
Q: Is FREDDY VS. JASON the last we are going to see of Freddy Krueger, or will there be more?
Robert Englund: Well, since we had the last nightmare, I think FREDDY VS. JASON is a new interpretation of the franchise, especially since New Line Cinema secured the rights to the FRIDAY THE 13th films. I'd imagine that this would be the finale. Though there might be more FRIDAY THE 13th films - I don't know. I've heard a rumor that there will be two endings to FREDDY VS. JASON - Freddy will win in one, and Jason will win in another. And the audience will never know what ending they'll see, because they'll change the last reel.

There are currently two concepts out there for a new movie starring Friday the 13th front man Jason Voorhees. New Line Cinema has announced that they have begun development on Jason X, the latest in the Friday the 13th series. That makes you wonder what's become of the long delayed Freddy vs. Jason project. Apparently a script and budget for Jason X will be turned in this week. New Line will then decide which project it is going to work on. Freddy vs. Jason is undergoing a rewrite by Mark Verheiden. There is apparently a "phony copycat Freddy killer" element that is being removed. That script is expected at the end of the month. Either way one of these movies should be hitting screens in late 2000.

You're a big fan of slasher flicks and you've been anxiously awaiting the pairing of the two most famous villains of that genre. Well according to Robert Englund, who starred as Freddy Krueger, you might not have all that long to wait. In an interview with DVD Review, Englund talked a bit about the new movie. "Freddy vs. Jason sounds comical, but (producer) Michael DeLuca goes to great lengths to get the script where he wants it. I am hoping that it will help the overall balance. The new writer on the project did the first draft for ‘The Mask’. It is a great film that really made a difference. It turned a corner like ‘The Blair Witch Project’, and I think these things need to be embraced."
Yeah, yeah, when are they going to make it you're asking. "All I know is that they’re waiting for a first draft at this point. I am really looking forward to that, and then we’ll go into early pre-production. I might be doing a little bit of stuff, screen tests and so in September. Currently we are working towards a Summer 2000 release date. As I say, there’s no final script yet, but I heard some really interesting stuff about the story and how they tie Freddy and Jason together. One of the ideas is to make Freddy the janitor at the Crystal Lake camp and so forth. I am sure it will be fun."
Now you know.

It's still on. The recently announced Jason 2000 project is not going to replace this one. According to Cinescape, New Line has said that they will make Freddy Vs. Jason and then do Jason 2000 afterwards. He went on to say that F Vs. J will probably begin production sometime in the fall.

I already spoke up a few days ago with my opinions about this movie so I'll save the commentary and tell you there is another script review over at AICN.
12 April, 1999
AICN has posted a review of the script for the long awaited battle royale from these two horror icons. The reviewer seemed to like it, with a few minor complaints. So why am I reporting it? Well, probably due to an undying conviction that this will suck big time. Take two slasher franchises that long over stayed their welcome and not only make another film but combine them. Furthermore, do this years after the last of either series. I will be astonished if this isn't an unwatchable mess. Which of course is exactly what I want to see...

The much anticipated Freddy vs. Jason movie is set to begin filming in February. Characters from earlier Nightmare on Elm St. and Friday the 13th films will be featured in the script. Thanks to AICN.
