LatinoReview spoke with Mel Gibson about Signs and talked turned to this project. Gibson indicated the main reason against its not going forward was that it's "prohibitively expensive." He did add however that they "were trying to find ways to do it that's not so expensive".

Our own Hollyfeld caught an interesting bit of info on this project long buried in development hell.

I was watching Charlie Rose last night and picked up a bit of news:

On Friday night Charlie Rose interviewed director Frank Darabont about his current release, The Majestic. At the close of the show, Darabont was asked about his upcoming plans, and responding by saying that because directing was so exhausting for him ("it kicks my butt" were closer to his actual words), he is going to take a few years to focus on his writing. He owes several scripts to Castle Rock, he said, and has no plans to direct any of what he writes except, perhaps, for one project. Darabont declared clearly his plans to adapt Farenheit 451 for the big screen in the course of the next year, with the hopes of directing the film the year afterwards.

This is project that has long been stuck in development hell, but Darabont seemed confident that it will be made.

In case you haven't heard about this one, Mel Gibson has been working for a long time to remake the movie based on Ray Bradbury's book. What does Bradbury think of Gibson's efforts so far? "Someone recently sent me a copy of the screenplay that they found in a bookstore. And I read some things that...well, I can't tell you what I read. I had to close it. I couldn't finish reading it. A bookstore! Of all the places...A bookstore! Mel Gibson is a wonderful man, but I can't believe that he would do that. They have gone through 9 drafts. Like I said in my lecture, all of my books are screenplays. Just rip the pages out and stuff them in the camera." Hmm... I don't think he's happy.

Thanks to Coming Attractions.
