Star Wars Episode III (2005)

Plot:  Unknown. Presumably the film details the fall of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side of the force, followed by his betrayal and murder of the Jedi.

James Earl Jones spoke to the Toronto Sun and confirmed that he will be back as the voice of Darth Vader in Episode III. "George Lucas says 'When Anakin goes bionic -- that will be in the last five minutes of episode three -- they will hear you,'" says Jones.

Jones was taken with Hayden Christensen as a younger Anakin, "Aren't you impressed with him?" he says. "I like his whole bearing, the spine, the neck ... he's like a snake." He doesn't feel possessive of the role anymore. "No," he laughs, "the little kid (The Phantom Menace's Jake Lloyd) got me over that."

Dark Horizons reports that Dominique Swain ("Lolita", "Happy Campers") mentioned on London's ITN that she's close to signing on for a role in a blockbuster new space film. She gave two clues in the interview: one that one of her fave actors, Jimmy Smits, will be the one she'll be working scenes with the most and another that it's going to be hot, and she 'doesn't like heat'".

George Lucas apparently commented on Entertainment Tonight that Episode 3 would begin with the explosive end of the Clone Wars. After that it would become a very small and personal film. The storyline setup sounds similar to The Empire Strikes Back.

The official site updated with some interesting thoughts toward Episode III. Right now ILM is busily assembling the rough cut of the movie with animatics replacing most of the visual effects. "ILM has completed about 160 shots," says [Producer Rick] McCallum, "which is a lot better than what we had at this time for Episode I. Then, we were at about 63 shots. Our next goal is to have 1,100 shots done for early fall. We're looking at about 2,200 shots total -- virtually every shot in the movie."

The plan is to finish the rough cut in June. "The game plan's there," says McCallum. "We're very goal-oriented now. We have calendars everywhere. We know what we're doing next Friday. We know what we're doing the Friday after. We know what cut we have to get to."

Apparently Lucas is already starting to look ahead to the next movie. "George is starting to think about Episode III," says McCallum, "Hopefully we're going to start in September on conceptual work, and start on animatics for some of the larger sequences for Episode III. We'll try to lock down the costumes by December 2002 so we can make it easier for wardrobe staff to start constructing costumes in Sydney for January 2003."
