Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (May 16, 2002)

Wondering what that is? It's just a small piece of a picture of the latest Star Wars vehicle. I'll let Joshua from TheForce.net explain it a bit better (beware of spoilers):
The Republic Assault/Attack Gunship is its name, and mass destruction and troop deployment is its game. The Jedi and a strike team of clonetroopers use this tough vehicle during the Geonosis battle. As we said in an earlier spy report, "it is heavily armored and ready to attack airborne targets or engage the enemy on the ground, you'll be impressed with this flying monster."

Here's a quick report from our DVD editor Dr. Strangelove:
Today, on some television show on E!, there was a look at Episode II.
It featured numerous alien extras in a night club like atmosphere along with
Obi-Wan and Anakin. Could this be the rumored nightclub where the
assassination attempt on Amadala takes place?

That title is not a rumor it's the truth. The announcement just came out from LucasFilm itself. The title of the next Star Wars movie is Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Say this for Lucas, he comes up with titles you simply can't predict. Anyway, in honor of this new information, Deadpool's latest column is chock full of images from the movie that you probably haven't seen yet.

TheForce.net has got a real treat for you today. They managed to get a short piece of behind the scenes video from the shooting of the movie. It basically shows Hayden Christensen practicing and rehearsing his lightsaber work. There is a lot of him running around, kicking and getting thrown around too. Particularly cool is a scene where he weilds a glow rod to give the proper light reflections on his face and clothes. The clip is about 3MB in size and can be found here.
Thanks to Joshua Griffin.

Over on Aldera.net is what they claim to be an authentic Doug Chiang production painting that makes clear the climactic lightsaber duel of the movie. What you see here is just a thumbnail picture, click on it to see the full thing if you dare.
Thanks to 'Tudor.'
If you wander over to Sam Davatchi's Page you'll find an amazing collection of photos from the movie. There are a few examples here but you can find several more there and in larger sizes too.

The official site updated with some interesting thoughts toward Episode III. Right now ILM is busily assembling the rough cut of the movie with animatics replacing most of the visual effects. "ILM has completed about 160 shots," says [Producer Rick] McCallum, "which is a lot better than what we had at this time for Episode I. Then, we were at about 63 shots. Our next goal is to have 1,100 shots done for early fall. We're looking at about 2,200 shots total -- virtually every shot in the movie."
The plan is to finish the rough cut in June. "The game plan's there," says McCallum. "We're very goal-oriented now. We have calendars everywhere. We know what we're doing next Friday. We know what we're doing the Friday after. We know what cut we have to get to."
Apparently Lucas is already starting to look ahead to the next movie. "George is starting to think about Episode III," says McCallum, "Hopefully we're going to start in September on conceptual work, and start on animatics for some of the larger sequences for Episode III. We'll try to lock down the costumes by December 2002 so we can make it easier for wardrobe staff to start constructing costumes in Sydney for January 2003."

Take a good look at this little wedge shaped starship. That's not an early star destroyer you're looking at. It's actually the Jedi fighter, a small ship piloted by Obi-Wan in the movie. One of the earliest on set photos was actually of this ship, although we didn't know what it was at the time. LucasFilm describes it this way: "Introducing the first new vessel of Episode II: the Jedi starfighter. A sleek one-man vehicle equipped with a faithful (if truncated) astromech droid named R4-P17, the crimson-hued craft serves as Obi-Wan's conveyance in an important mission." The official site has released a nifty little video on the designing of this fighter. Check it out here.
