Daredevil (2003)
Plot: Young Matt Murdock receives an unhealthy dose of radioactive waste that robs him of his sight. It does however grant him ultra-heightened other senses, including a radar ability that lets him see better than most. A lawyer by day he prowls New York City at night as the vigilante Daredevil.

The crew is filming again in New York although they aren't doing reshoots. FilmForce reports that their source indicates that they "always planned to do establishing shots and [visual effects] plates in New York City. Shooting the picture in L.A. was great but we need to sell New York City [via] wide shots."
They also report that a new trailer should be in theaters November 1.

Producer Mark Steven Johnson explained the Elektra costume to Wizard magazine. "In our movie, Daredevil is already established and his red is intrinsic to his character," he says. "But Elektra hasn't turned into an assassin yet-it's more of an origin story for her. I wanted her costume to be one that would enable her to make that transition from Elektra Natchios into Elektra: Assassin. I wanted her to be able to slip in and out of the shadows in her search for Daredevil, and bright red sashes and headbands wouldn't allow for that. But in the future, once she's been established as a cold-blooded killer for his, I'd love to see her costume evolve into that of the comic character."

There were a couple of images on the net recently claiming to be the first of the movie version of Daredevil. One posted by Dark Horizons appears to be a fake, or at least I hope it's fake because it looks so bad. That can be found here. The other, posted by AICN, which you can see by clicking on the thumbnail, is more likely a true photo. Unfortunately it's really just a silhouette, so no details are available. It does look cool though.

Fox released the first photos of the set recently which showed the director setting up a scene with Joey Pantoliano and Kevin Smith. Smith, as you may know, wrote for the Daredevil comic for a time. The Clerks director makes a cameo appearance in the film as Jack Kirby (homage to the comic book legend).

According to FilmForce, Ellen Pompeo (Showtime) has been cast as Karen Page. In the original comic book series, Page was the secretary for Matt and Foggy's law firm. She was Matt's lover for a time and aware of his secret identity. In the movie though, she will remain a minor character. Elektra will serve as the female lead and love interest for Matt.

According to FilmForce, the role of investigative reporter Ben Urich has gone to Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix, Memento, Bound). Urich's mission in life is to find the true identity of The Kingpin. He worked for The Daily Bugle which brought him into contact with both Daredevil and Spider-Man. Since Columbia has the rights to the Bugle for their Spider-Man movie, it can safely be assumed that Urich will work for a different paper in this movie.

The latest Untitled Deadpool Column contains a review of this movie's script. It's a highly positive review with only minor spoilers.
The script for Daredevil works overtime to portray a more realistic world of superheroes. In fact, square in the middle of the first page, it makes the bold statement, 'So forget what you know about superheroes. Because this is the real world. And in the real world there is no such thing as 'mutant healing' or 'spider sense' to keep a man alive. In the real world there’s just a guy in a mask.' The fact that this guy can sense the presence of objects 360 degrees around him and feel fingerprints on a desk seems forgotten in this statement, but to be sure there are no energy beams or telepathy to be found here. Daredevil takes place in a world like our own, but one in which a spoiled rich girl is among the world’s greatest kung fu experts, blind men fight crime, a Mafioso is one of the strongest men in the world and a man could kill you with the flick of a quarter. This slightly exaggerated world of crime fighting is a pleasant change of pace, though occasionally reminiscent of Tim Burton’s original Batman. Here, too, the hero is a seemingly supernatural figure written off by the public as a spook story criminals tell their kids at night, but here, unlike almost every adaptation of this kind, we have a superhero who seems unafraid to kill.

It's official according to FilmForce. Jennifer Garner has been signed to play the role of Elektra. The Golden Globe winning star of the series Alias could find this to be a highly lucrative role. If the movie proves popular, Fox wants to spin the character off into its own movies.
Also joining the cast is Michael Clarke Duncan in the role of Wilson Fisk AKA the Kingpin. In the comic books the character is an enormous white man who runs a criminal empire. Duncan fit the producers desire to find an actor of significant physical size who could also really act. The fact that he's black wasn't an issue because of those other factors.

It would appear that casting Elektra is proving a painfully difficult task. Rumors have been flying left and right, fueled in some part by loose lips of producers. The most recent rumors have listed Monica Bellucci and Alias star Jennifer Garner as the most likely to get the role. Bellucci however is definitely out as she has a scheduling conflict due to her appearance in the Bruce Willis film Hostile Act. Garner remains a real possibility at this point although casting is still up in the air.

IGN is reporting some interesting rumors on this film. Apparently Penelope Cruz has met with the director and is very interested in the part of Elektra. Other actresses who have reportedly expressed interest are Lucy Liu, Angie Harmon, Jessica Alba, Natalie Portman, Claire Forlani and Bridget Moynahan. The role of The Kingpin has yet to be cast. They want to find a large actor rather than resorting to putting a thin actor in a fat suit. This apparently has them considering Robbie Coltrane (Harry Potter, From Hell, Goldeneye) although he hasn't been offered the role as yet.
Filming should get underway March 20 in Los Angeles.

Stax over at FilmForce got a hold of the script for this superhero flick and liked what he saw. Here's a taste:
This script is also punctuated by some deft, genuinely witty banter between Matt and Foggy. These two guys – clearly the best of friends – are not above milking Matt's handicap for all it's worth in the courtroom. I'm glad that this script actually took advantage of the super-hero's "day job." Daredevil is one part comic book adventure and one part legal thriller, and it succeeds at both. Matt's dual jobs dovetail so the courtroom drama scenes never seemed arbitrary.
Bullseye was a great villain (albeit depicted here without his trademark costume). Vin Diesel would've been better suited for this character (as written here) rather than as Daredevil. Bullseye has several great lines and he's perhaps the nastiest and funniest villain I've encountered since Robocop. The best comparison I can make is that he's the super-cool henchman to Kingpin's Bond villain and Daredevil's 007. The inclusion of Bullseye definitely made this a more suspenseful yarn.

Sony Pictures is close to acquiring the film rights to Marvel Comics' Daredevil character. They have put the project on the fast track along with the recently acquired Doctor Strange project. Add them to Sony's rapidly growing list of Marvel characters. Sony is also hard at work on a Spider-Man project after extracting it from an ugly legal web (sorry).
