DeadPool here, an anonymous source has sent me the first picture of Sam Rockwell in this film. It seems they've got the Chuck Barris hair pretty darn right.

Scoop sent in anonymously.

Here's a report on filming locations.

Heard that they'll be filming interiors at the new movie studio in Bayonne, New Jersey used by TV's "Oz" and film "A Beautiful Mind." Apparently they've pulled this feature out of Montreal all together due to the impending actor's union (ACTRA) negotiations. Don't know how much, if any, of this film will shoot in New Jersey and/or New York. Start date is unknown at this time.

Happy Labor Day from The Mole.

According to Variety, George Clooney still wants to make this movie. So much so in fact, that he has talked to Miramax about directing the picture himself. No word on whether or not Johnny Depp would still be interested. Clooney would play Jim Byrd, the operative that supposedly drafted Chuck Barris into the spy game.

Things are not looking good for those wanting to see former Gong Show host Chuck Barris' autobiography brought to the big screen. Talks between Miramax and Renaissance Films have collapsed over budgetary concerns on the project. Miramax was looking to pick up domestic and possibly foreign distribution rights on the movie.

The film would star Johnny Depp (Chocolat) and George Clooney (O Brother, Where Art Thou?), to be directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men) from a script by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich) The actors had agreed to defer part of their fees for appearing in the movie but were unwilling to defer any further. Today was to be the deadline for the talks so if the matter isn't settled the project could be dead in the water.

The big problem is that the oddball nature of the material will make marketing the movie difficult. This makes studios nervous about the film's $37 million budget. They are unlikely to take a risk on the hard to believe concept that this game show host lead a secret life as a CIA assassin. At least at this price tage that is.

Stax popped in to tell us about a script by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich) called Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. The script is based on Chuck Barris' autobiography in which the Gong Show host claims that he was recruited by the CIA as an assassin while he was working in Hollywood. This isn't one you can expect to see in theaters any time soon but that doesn't mean it isn't a fascinating read.

In spite of every moral and intellectual safeguard I had, I ended up enjoying this script and its repellent characters a great deal; I won't soon forget Chuck Barris' faux confessional. Barris was a bleak cynic who believed that most people would sell out their spouses for a new washer-dryer, that they would debase themselves on national TV by pulling some kind of vulgar stunt. Am I like his game show contestants and viewers, won over by his smug charm and cheap gags? After reading CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND, and enjoying it despite my better judgment, I'm ashamed to wonder if Barris wasn't right about people. -- STAX
