Plot:  This movie is a spinoff from The Mummy Returns. It follows Kane as he rises from young mercenary to become the first Pharoah of Egypt.

News:

There are rumors of re-shoots floating around according to Dark Horizons. There source said, "Re-shoots for the "Scorpion King" are underway for the next 2 weeks in Mammoth, due to the final edit falling somewhere around 70 minutes total. They apparently brought in a 2nd director specifically for these shots (no name as of yet). They are planning to shoot at 3 other locations as well, after the mammoth location ( no word on those locations as of yet). They are 'hoping' to bring the film up towards the 100 minute mark".

Dark Horizons has posted a teaser poster which you can see to the right.

Thanks to 'Baldric.'

Johnny Butane at the Creature Corner dropped us a line about their review of the script for the movie. The names differ a bit from what we've heard previously but that's probably just due to differing versions of the script.

Set in the year 3000 B.C., the script drops us into turbulent times where tribes fight to rule the barren wastelands of Egypt. The main man with the upper hand who is destroying the competition is the nasty Lord Memnon, the guy everyone wants dead. The King of Ur, Pheron, hires our man Mathayus and his group of Akkadian assassins to take out Memnon's mysterious sorcerer who can see the future (always a good thing to have when you're going to war). After a disastrous attempt to kill the sorceress, that's right, I said sorceress (surprise!), Mathayus is sentenced to death by Memnon and buried out in the desert to be eaten alive by larger-than-usual fire ants. With the help of the foolish horse thief, Arpid, Mathayus escapes and sets his sights on revenge so it's off to the city of Gomorrah. Mathayus makes an attempt to kill Memnon only to face failure, again. Now Mathayus is on the run from Memnon's first man, Thorax, but our hero isn't on the run alone: he's kidnapped the sorceress, Cassandra. What follows is a "Gladiator"/"Indiana Jones" mixture that ends in plenty of pyrotechnics and action.

Michael Clarke Duncan has confirmed that he has joined the cast. In an interview with About.com, Duncan says "They started production already. I have a couple more days and then I'm starting. I play Balthezar, the leader of this gigantic army and I battle The Rock. The Rock and I do battle. Then it switches around to where we become allies and we fight a bigger foe."

"The thing is, this story takes place before The Mummy 2," Duncan explained. "The Mummy 2 obviously is coming out now but this leads up to The Mummy 2 where he becomes the Scorpion King."

12 March, 2001

Kelly Hu has been added to the cast. She will be playing Cassandra, a prisoner of the evil warlord. Filming is set to begin very shortly.
