American Outlaws (2001)

Plot:  When the citizens of a Midwest town learn that a corrupt railroad baron intends to force them off their land in the name of progress, a group of young farmers join forces to take back what is rightfully theirs. In the course of their vendetta, they will become the object of the biggest manhunt in the history of the Old West. As their fame grows, so will the legend of their leader, a young outlaw by the name of Jesse James.

American OutlawsThe poster for this western is now out. It's pretty standard except for the extreme graininess of the picture. I wonder if that was deliberate to try and conjure up the feeling of an old-time photograph. Click on the image for a larger version and I do mean larger.

Thanks to 'Judy.'

If there's one thing that's certain in Hollywood it's that you should never attempt to learn history from the movies. The latest example of this is American Outlaws, a rather loose recreation of the life of the infamous Old West outlaw Jesse James. Played by Colin Farrell, James is now a returning war hero defending his property from an evil railroad tycoon. He forms a gang and starts a series of raids intended to cripple the tycoon's operations.

In reality James was a rather ruthless killer and thief. Nonetheless he remains a fixture in American mythology and thus ripe ground for a movie. The official website for the movie is up and running with all sorts of info and pictures. The film also stars Scott Caan, Ali Larter, Will McCormack, Gabriel Macht, Kathy Bates and Timothy Dalton. It opens May 18, 2001.
