29 August, 2000 Hawaii's a popular filming location Hawaii is a real popular spot to film movies this year. Earlier this summer Michael Bay's mega-budgeted Pearl Harbor was filmed there. Up next are two more feature films starting immediately. Jurassic Park 3 just started filming on Oahu and will continue for the next three weeks. Parts of that shoot will occur on Kauai. There will also be aerial shots of the sea cliffs on Molokai. John Woo's World War II movie Windtalkers is also just getting underway in Hawaii. Kualoa Ranch on Oahu serves as home to the shoot for the next seven weeks. Tack on shooting for two TV series, Baywatch Hawaii and Lessons Learned and it makes for a shortage of qualified film crews. Windtalkers is using one hundred local crew members while Jurassic Park 3 is using 60. The two TV series are using a total of around 90. The shortages have forced the local unions to get referrals from their own members to fill roles. Thanks to Variety.
