Greeting Scapers!
Sci Fi Channel frequently runs 'chain reactions' -- just a fancy name for mini-marathons basically. Last Sunday, we were finally treated to a Farscape four-episode chain reaction. While the first episode was a stand alone piece, and pretty dull at that, the next three got the ball rolling on what would eventually lead up to the season one climax. In my mind, this is where farscape really started picking up momentum. So without further ado...episode three of three.
Hidden Memory - Season I - Original Air Date - 1.14.00
Our situation: Crichton - Scorpius' captive, and losing his sanity. Moya - close to giving birth to Talyn, and unable to starbust even if needed. Aeryn - just starting to recuperate, but when she finds out John is stuck down on the planet, she returns to robohottie PK commando mode faster than you can say "frell."
Meanwhile, Scorpius has learned things about John that he didn't know about himself. For instance, the wormhole knowledge locked in his brain, placed there by the ancients earlier in the season. Since the entire purpose of the secret base is to crack wormhole technology, Scorpius is more than a little bit interested. But Gilina has also rigged the chair with some fake memories -- memories that implicate Crais as Crichton's boss. Crais vehemently denies it, but of course, the chair does not lie. A memory is a memory, so the only way to know for sure is to put Crais in the distinctly unpleasant chair himself, and indignity that he swears he will avenge against Scorpius.
So Zhaan and D'argo are waiting on the surface, while Aeryn, with the help of Gilina, tries to free Crichton. During the commotion, she has a chance encounter with Crais while he's still strapped into the chair. At this point, there is no doubt where her allegiance lies. She cranks up the juice, and walks out, leaving Crais screaming all by himself -- retribution for when he declared her "irreversibly contaminated" by the prisoners and ruined her career.
Up in orbit, Moya is having complications with Talyn's birth, because he has been genetically altered by the PK's to have weapons, the first of any leviathan to do so. Eventually, however, Talyn arrives, and all is well. But not for everyone. With life comes death, and Gilina makes the ultimate sacrifice so that John can escape. The last shot we see is of the angered Scorpius, and we know that things are just getting started for our heroes.
Damn this show is good when it develops a story. The stand alone episodes are good, but these Farscape story arcs are the real deal.
