Howdy folks. John here, filling in for Ultra Magnus while he's busy jetsetting around the globe. That means that this week's episode gets reviewed by a Farscape newbie. I only recently got the SciFi channel so I've only seen one episode of the show prior to this one. So be kind, I'm still learning.

Won't Get Fooled Again - Original Air Date - 08.18.00

In this episode, Chrichton wakes in a hospital bed with his father and brother looking down on him. They say he's okay but that he was injured in an accident when the Farscape experiment failed. Crichton immediatelly assumes that this is a trick. This opinion is helped out by the fact that a number of the people around him look just like his fellow crewmates on Moya. His doctor looks like Aeryn but doesn't act like her. She thinks he's crazy because he keeps insisting she's someone else. He gets sent to a shrink who looks like Zhaan.

It keeps going like this as he meets people who look like someone he knows but aren't. His behavior keeps getting more and more eratic as he starts losing his fragile grip on sanity.

For the longest time it's pretty hard to figure out just what is happening to him. Eventually the truth starts to emerger but it's not a particularly agreeable one for Crichton. To escape his predicament he has to trust someone he'd really rather not trust.

This episode reminded me a lot of the episodes of Star Trek: TNG where they got trapped on a misbehaving holodeck. The difference is that those people knew they weren't experiencing reality. Crichton doesn't know that and it really effects his sanity. For awhile the show is very funny watching Crichton's behavior get more and more strange. It turns dark toward the end however, ending on a rather ominous note for Crichton's future.

Like I said, I just started watching the show so I can't really compare it the rest of the series. I did find it to be quite entertaining though. The show is well written and well acted. The sight of aliens dressed and acting like humans in everyday life was particularly amusing.

It also contained one of the stronger elements which drew me to Babylon 5. The episode could stand as a good story on its own but contained pieces relating to a larger storyline at the same time. It did a good job of getting me hooked. I'll be making a point of watching this show regularly now.
