Greetings Scapers!

First off, let's get one thing straight. This week's episode, "Beware of Dog", was destined to be a bit of a letdown. It had the misfortune of coming right after "The Maltese Crichton", part three of the "Look at the Princess" arc, which in my and many a scaper's mind was the best episode to date. Having said that, the story does make for an entertaining filler episode.

Beware of Dog - Original Air Date - 08.11.00

Moya's crew have just obtained some badly needed provisions from an agricultural planet. The down side is that the food may have brought parasites on board. How does one get rid of these pesky, ill-defined parasites? A Vorc of course. A Vorc being a 2 foot tall vaguely humanoid creature with a disproportianately large head.

So after Crichton supposedly spots the parasite and fails to kill it, the Vorc is set loose. Chiana is put in charge of following it around, but she is not very successful. The Vorc is quick, and it keeps ducking into Moya's smaller, inner workings.

This episode is not heavy on plot. It relies on tension and atmosphere mainly to push the story. What we get is basically a lot of alien hunting, and a couple interesting plot twists. At some points it had a cool Alien-type feel to it, except that no one ever got gutted. The whole parasite/ Vorc plot is really just an excuse, however, to illustrate Crichton's increasingly precarious mental state. He's seeing visions of Scorpius, who keeps taunting him. Telling him that he is walking into a trap of some sort. Aeryn is concerned for his mental state, remembering that humans are not accustomed to long stints in cold darkness of space.

As mentioned earlier, this is basically just a filler episode. It is meant to act as a transition from the "Princess" story to next week's more event episode, "Won't Be Fooled Again." What is so great about Farscape, is that unlike Star Trek, where a mediocre episode was sometimes painful to watch, mediocre Farscape is still great entertainment. The writers can get away with murder sometimes because of the strength of the characters, specifically, Crichton and Aeryn. Let's not beat around the bush - they are very much the two main characters these days, and I'm loving it. The decision to push Zhaan, D'argo and Chiana to the background was a good one. As much as I like Zhaan, "Dream a little Dream", the story of her incarceration on Litigaron, was the worst episode of the season.

Episode Rating: 6 out of 10

Highlights:

Quotes:

Crichton (to Rygel): "How do I know you're Rygel?" The familiar sound of Helium farts ensues.

Crichton: "Whoa...that thing just gave us the slip. Why would it double-back, unless..."
Aeryn: "unless it's leading us into a trap."
Crichton: "Right. So long as we know."

Zhaan: "I believe it wrong to imprison any living creature...there are always exceptions..."

Can't miss episode:

The wildly strange, bizarre and hallucinatory one-hour "Won't Get Fooled Again" airs Friday August 18, 9PM (ET) on SCI FI.

Synopsis:

Commander Crichton (Ben Browder) awakens back on Earth surrounded by friends and family... and the crew of Moya. Convinced that the world is fabricated, yet unable to escape as it takes stranger and stranger turns, Crichton slides down the slippery slope to madness and his only hope for sanity and survival is his greatest adversary.

Can't miss scene:

Aeryn, Chiana and Zhaan dressed as naughty nurses attending Crichton as he is strapped to an examining table.

Why:

Interspecies same-sex kiss (we won't say who).

Sounds like a good one!
