Greetings Scapers!

Well, Season II is winding down faster than you can say "Frell!" But before you break out the hankies, there's still a lot of interstellar high drama to watch! Last week, we were treated to Part One of "Liars, Guns & Money", so what about Part Two, you ask? Well, read on...

"With Friends Like These..." ("Liars, Guns & Money", Part Two)
Original Air Date - 1.12.01

When last we left our heroes, they had successfully stolen Scorpius' loot from the shadow depository in order to purchase a lot of 10,000 slaves, including D'Argo's son, Jothee. But talk about your bad rubs -- not only has Scorpius caught wind of the plan and already bought the slaves, the money now aboard Moya was intended for Scorpius, as Natira meant to sabotage his vessel with some metal-munching arachnid creatures. Now they're eating Moya alive from the inside, and time is running out for a solution.

But before anyone even realized the money/arachnid problem, John, Aeryn, Rygel and D'Argo had set off to separate corners of the uncharted territories to recruit some mercenaries for an all-out attack of the depository where Scorpius is holding Jothee. See, Scorpius has offered D'Argo a deal: John for Jothee, or Jothee gets it. To say this quandary puts D'Argo's loyalties to the test is an understatement. In the end though, they seek out the help of some old...uh..enemies.

If you haven't been watching Farsape from the start, this episode may have had you scratching your head a bit. We see the return of Season I villains such as the: Vorcarians ("Til' The Blood Runs Clear", the trackers that tortured D'Argo), Sheyangs ("PK Tech Girl", the frog-like fire-breathing dudes), Tavleks ("Throne for a Loss", nasties who wear the deadly gauntlets) and a Zeneten pirate ("The Flax", Durka, who's not too fond of Rygel).

This episode reminded me of The Empire Strikes Back for several reasons. It had a dark, middle-piece-to-a-trilogy feel to it, and also because of the seeming ease of which everybody splits up and hops around from one planet to the next like it were no big deal. Hey, if it works for Star Wars, then why not Farscape, right? Anyway, this ep was a lot of fun. Especially John's interaction with the Tavlek, who had apparently found religion, but only after he'd executed a priest, of course.

A lot happened in this ep, and I haven't even gotten to the best part yet. Eventually, all four crewmembers come back to Moya with the mercs and find out that nearly one-ninth of the ship had to be scorched to flush out the parasites. Moya, and Pilot, are in severe pain. And if that's not enough, now they have no money to pay the mercs. And then -- totally unexpectedly, and a tad abruptly I thought, Jothee strolls onto the bridge and embraces his long-lost father. After Aeryn witnesses this tender moment and the celebration subsides, she asks how he managed to escape Scorpius. Jothee replies that he simply let him go, for reasons unknown. Aeryn and D'Argo share a horrified glance, as they immediately realize that Moya is one crewmember short...

An excellent episode. Part Three looks to be killer.

Episode Rating: 8 out of 10

Highlights:

Best Quote:

Crichton: "You want the wormhole technology in my brain? Fine. I want this implant out. You win."
Scorpius: "As if there were ever any doubt."

Tune in next Friday for Part Three of the trilogy, and the penultimate episode of Season II.
