In honor of the new sequel, Jurassic Park III (honor of a sequel? that's a laugh) I've decided to do a DVD review of the first two Jurassic Park films, "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic Park: The Lost World". Here we go....
JURASSIC PARK: THE LOST WORLD
Movie: 7/10
Some people laugh at me when I tell them I didn't think this movie was that bad. It wasn't great, but it was very entertaining. It had more brains than Swordfish but it didn't have the cranium that the first one had. It could have been a lot worse though. I don't remember much of the book, but I think the book was better from what I do remember. This movie is just fun, it's a rush, like a roller coaster. Spielberg clearly has fun in this film, but he doesn't take himself as seriously. Which both helps and hurts. It deals with Dr. Ian Malcolm (from the first film, Jeff Goldblum), his girlfriend, and a team of scientists going to an island known as Site B to document this "lost world" which will lead to it's preservation. However, there are a bunch of bad guys who want to capture the dinos and soon they all get chased by them. Could have been worse.... Could have been better....
Video: 9/10
I thought this one was a tad more clear than the first film. It is a newer film, perhaps that is why. It does have it's bad moments, but it's great to watch the dinos run through the city. Not bad, where's the THX?
Audio: 9/10
I, too, felt this was a better transfer than the first film. It's not as dated, that's why. Plus I really like the soundtrack... The first film's was good, but the percussion towards the end gets me everytime.
Extras: 7.5/10
How could this one fair off better than the first's extras? It's a sin! The extras are the same, documentary, story boards, trailers, encyclopedia, but this one has deleted scenes! They don't look too great, but we got 'em! Now if only Spielberg would do a commentary.... I suppose he doesn't have time, but try and make some.
NOTE: Buy both films together in "The Collection", it's like thirty bucks and it's worth every penny. Even if you didn't like the second flick, the packaging is worth it.
