Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: Collector's Edition

Movie:  9/10

If you're a fan of Kevin Smith, this film works on multiple levels. If you haven't seen his movies, you'll get some laughs out of it being a slap stick comedy. If you hate Kevin Smith, you may get a tiny kick out of all the celeb cameos in this baby. What Smith gives his fans is a swan song, ending his beloved Askewniverse in style. (He delivers multiple reasons for this in a monologue in Holden's monologue that strikes a familiar chord: move on!) The film deals with Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith) who decide to crash a movie set. The movie set is for a film entitled "Bluntman and Chronic", a direct reflection of Jay and Bob's life into superhero form. Sparked by internet nerds who are ripping their superhero personas apart, the two embark on a road trip to stop the film. From kidnapping a monkey, learning the rules of the road, and other misadventures, the two hooligans embark to Hollywood encountering numerous celeb cameos and endless dick and fart jokes. What's beautiful about this film is that, while primitive in some of the comedic nature (using dick and fart jokes), the dialogue is razor sharp and smart in itself. Smith is truly a great writer and while this film, in my opinion, does not rise above Chasing Amy (which is more a work of romantic comedy) however, this is his best straight forward comedy. A great farewell to some of our old friends!

Video:  9/10

The best looking (in style, not transfer) Kevin Smith film to date. The transfer does this puppy justice and is damn near perfect in it's anamorphic widescreen glory. Wonderful shit.

Audio:  8/10

Again, damn near perfect. 5.1 "special" DVD mix that makes all the dialogue clear and puts the rest in it's place.

Extras:  10/10

Holy shit! This baby is stacked! We have an entertaining and hilarious commentary track with Smith, Mewes, and producer Scott Mosier (could have used a few of the cast members, but not bad at all); over FIFTY deleted/extended scenes (which look excellent), some behind the scenes documentaries, trailers and other goodies. Like all Kevin Smith DVDs, this baby is packed to the brim. No complaints.... None at all.

Overall:  9/10

Buy it just for the movie and the extras! This two disc set is a steal at twenty bucks!
