One of my favorite films and one of the best horror films ever now joins the ranks of my killer DVD collection (along with a decent sequel, whose review will be coming soon (along with other horror movies)).

HALLOWEEN

Movie:  9/10

This is one of the better horror movies to ever come along as well as one of the most influential. The story is simple and does what it needs to without bogging itself down in plot. We have Laurie Strode, a typical high school student who just happens to be babysitting some children the night after a mental patient, Michael Myers, escapes from a near by hospital. The target: Laurie Strode, Myer's long lost sister. The killer, whom I think wears one of the scariest masks in the history of horror films, chases Laurie and her friends around, murdering a few along the way while his former psychiatrist is on his trail. If you haven't seen this movie, which is probably very few of you, you should. The only gripes I have are that this dvd did not come with the extended television version (which is purchaseable, however, without extras and a THX transfer) and that is spawned some horrible sequels and imitations. Very good horror, at it's best.

Video:   9/10

Looks great for being so old, THX transfer that looks like a lot of work went into it. Very well done, however, it does have it's share of SMALL problems do to the age of the film. Comes in both widescreen and full screen.

Audio:   9/10

Again, this sounds as good as it looks. THX transfer mastered in 5.1, 2 channel, and mono. At times it becomes slightly too loud, but it's a lot better than previous copies. You gotta love it!

Extras:   6/10

Comes chocked full of trailers, tv spots, radio spots, and more. The highlight of the disc is a half hour documentary that is done quite well and is worth a few viewings. The only things that disappointed me was the lack of commentaries (by directors, stars, anyone) as well as the lack of deleted scenes. I understand a Limited Editon came out with a second disc, but I WANT IT! The menus are decent and the overall presentation is also nice, but it could have had more!

Overall:   8/10

Worth the fifteen bucks just for the flick with such a nice transfer and a decent documentary. I love this shit!
