The Elephant Man
Movie: 10/10
This is my second part of my David Lynch binge (Mulholland Drive coming to my collection next week). This flick is one of the best films ever made, it showcases an excellent, heartbreaking tale of John Merrick (aka The Elephant Man) who is portrayed wonderfully by English great John Hurt. The Elephant Man is the center of English freak shows and comes to the attention of Dr. Treves (Anthony Hopkins) who decides to rescue the poor man from the freak show, only to find that the man's help and hospitality has turned into a freak show of another kind. This is a great film for a number of reasons: the great acting from Hurt and Hopkins (both at the top of their game), a well written script, and a highly stylized look given by the young David Lynch. The black and white photography of the film is gothic and haunting and yet is very elegant. I find nothing to dislike about this film which makes we want to break into tears every time I watch it.

Very good looking! Paramount did a great job with this gem!
Audio: 9/10
5.1 and 2.0, great balance and the score comes out nicely.
Extras: 7/10
No chapter stops here. Lynch doesn't believe in em. This is a complaint of mine, it's kind of a pain in the ass. But Paramount at least put some meat on these bones in the form of an excellent documentary running about 30 minutes, a look at the makeup, and a narrated photogallery, trailer included. Too bad Lynch won't bone up and do a commentary, but it's not his style. An actor one would have been nice though! At least a critic or something! Ohh well..
Overall: 8/10
Kinda pricey (20-30 dollars), but the movie and decent extras are worth it. Good presentation too!
