Easy Rider (1969)
Movie: 8/10
This is one of those rare movies that defines an era or a generation. I wasn't actually a part of either so I really can't judge what that means. However, I can still say that this is a pretty cool movie. The photography of Lazlo Kovacs is simply stunning. This is easily one of the most beautifully shot movies I've seen in a long time. The story itself is filled to the brim with metaphors for that period in time. Luckily the included documentary and director's commentary help explain all that for those of us too young to remember it.
Even though Dennis Hopper describes his movie as an art film I found it highly entertaining. Hopper and Peter Fonda turn in iconic performances and Jack Nicholson plays a role that might seem pretty odd to those only familiar with his more recent work. It all blends together into a fun and simutaneously though provoking film well worth your time.
Disc: 8/10
Sound options include either Dolby Surround or Dolby 5.1 Digital Surround. Subtitles come in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean or Thai. There is a long and very detailed documentary on the making of the movie with interviews with just about everybody involved in the making of the movie. Also on board is a commentary track from director/star Dennis Hopper. It's not the most packed disc you will ever see but all included materials are top notch. If you are at all interested in this movie this disc is well worth your time.
