The Animal
Movie: 4/10
Believe it or not I was looking forward to this movie. I had genuinely enjoyed the moronic Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo and was hoping for a similarly dopey yet funny movie. Let's say I was a bit disappointed. In this one, Rob Schneider stars as Marvin Mange, an evidence room clerk who dreams of becoming a cop like his dad. Suffering a horrific car crash, Mange is rescued by a mad scientist who puts him back together with animal parts. As a result Mange now has the characteristics and behaviors of numerous animals. Hilarity ensues, or at least it was supposed to. What actually follows is a series of lame gags that failed to elicit more than a mild chuckle from me. Survivor fans might enjoy it for a chance to see more of cutie Colleen Haskel but I can't think of any other reason to watch this movie.

It looks fine with an anamorphic widescreen transfer.
Audio: 8/10
It sounds fine but there isn't anything on it more interesting than farts to listen to. Comes with Dolby 5.1 sound.
Extras: 7/10
It's a pretty packed set of features but they aren't all that interesting. It features a commentary by Rob Schneider where he says "anyway" something like 562 times and helpfully points out himself doing things onscreen. There is also a commentary by director Luke Greenfield, which also helpfully points out Schneider every time he's onscreen. Also included is a couple documentaries, deleted scenes and trailers.
Overall: 5/10
It's a mediocre movie with some decidedly average extras. Hard-core Schneider and Survivor fans should be pleased, the rest of us can move on to something else.
