DVD Releases for 19 December, 2000
Well kiddies, this is the last new slate of dvds that you'll be able to get before the holidays. And I doubt you'll have any trouble filling up those lazy afternoons to come. So tell Santa to get his ass over to your local dvd store pronto!
- Se7en - Platinum Series - easily, one of the most anticipated DVDs to date. David Fincher, along with P.T. Anderson, has to get mad props for making sure his movies get the proper digital treatment. This 2-disc set is loaded with commentaries, deleted scenes, alternate endings, etc. Supposedly equal to the famous Fight Club disc, which is currently the best DVD out there. Stop reading this and go buy this movie! (actually, read on, just so you don't have to make multiple trips)
- The Cell - Platinum Series - Jennifer Lopez gets stuck inside Vincent D'Onofrio's head. Surrealistic imagery provided by acclaimed music vid director Tarsem. ("Losing My Religion") People tend to love or hate this movie, and you probably know which category you fall into. It's a bunch of pretty pictures, but what exactly does it all mean??
- Princess Mononoke - One of the most acclaimed anime movies of all time. And for the life of me, I can't understand why. Simply put, I think this movie blows. On every level. But if you're like many critics, and you think this is the "Star Wars of animation", then who am I to say otherwise. Made in 1997, which american voices provided by Gillian Anderson, Minnie Driver, Billy Crudup, and Billy Bob Thornton. Consider yourself warned about this one.
- Road Trip (Rated R and Unrated) - Why even make a non-unrated version of this? Who's gonna buy the regular one? Well, in any case, this movie carries on in the tradition of recent movies like American Pie. There's a lot to this flick besides Tom Green, not the least of which is Amy Smart's sweater puppets. (oh please let that be where the unratedness comes into play...) Buy it!
- Loser - in more ways than one. I like Jason Biggs as much as the next guy, but he desperately needs that ensemble cast from American Pie to save him from this movie, and from doing any more movies like this. On the upside, Mena Suvari's never looked better.
Others: The Virgin Suicides, Saving Grace, Where the Money Is
See ya next week. Have a great yule tide...or something.
