DVD Releases for 31 October, 2000

Well, not exactly a super-tuesday, but we've seen far worse. While the slate is pretty lame compared to last week's explosion of goodness, there are some pretty decent flicks in the bunch:

  1. Frequency - sort of like X-men, surprised people by not sucking. Seriously, a pretty decent sci-fi flick. Quaid and Caviezel put in some good performances.
  2. Touch of Evil - Orson Welles' classic 1958 crime story is restored to the vision of its director, 42 years after its release.
  3. Born on the Fourth of July - Probably the first time we saw Cruise really act. Oliver Stone's look at a soldier turned pacifist.
  4. Anna and the King - Jodie Foster and Chow Yun Fat in yet another remake of The King and I. Someone forgot about the need for chemistry.
  5. Gossip - whoa! the second week in a row we're treated to a crappy Joshua Jackson movie! Does this guy have no mercy?!

Others notables:
Fail-Safe, Hercules in New York (ah-nuld's first), Life of Python, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Vol. 7, and finally, Prince: Rave Un2 the Year 2000.

Next week looks to be an improvment, so be sure to check back!
