DVD Releases for 6 March, 2001
It's another Tuesday my friends, and while this week is by no means a DVD milestone, it's still a vast improvement over the debacle that was last Tuesday. Anyway, here ya go:
- Meet the Parents -- the wildly successful Stiller/De Niro comedy finally comes home. This thing sat atop the box office for four straight weeks, something that almost never happens. Anyway, you get two commentaries: one with director Jay Roach, and one with Stiller and De Niro. Also comes with deleted scenes, outtakes and production notes. Check out John's review, here.
- The Contender -- the largely overlooked political thriller starring Joan Allen, Jeff Bridges and Gary Oldman. Comes with a commentary by director Rod Lurie and Joan Allen, deleted scenes, and the HBO: First Look special. These First Look specials are usually pretty cool, and I'm glad to see them popping up more often on the new releases. As far as the flick goes, check out Dogburt's review, right here.
- The Broken Hearts Club -- if you blinked, you missed this one in theaters. This is essentially the gay male version of Steel Magnolias, led by Dean Cain and Timothy Olyphant. You get a commentary, some deleted scenes and a few screen tests.
- Rear Window - Collector's Edition -- the classic gets some due attention. The Hitchcock classic comes with an original documentary, a conversation with screenwriter John Michael Hayes, and production stills. As a bonus, it's widescreen anamorphic. This is definitely one of those movies that is a must see for anybody who would like to consider themselves film literate.
- Groundhog Day -- hard to believe this wasn't already out, but you can't complain anymore. Well, you could complain about the lack of features, since this disc is the very definition of bare bones. Still a funny movie though. You probably don't need a director's commentary on this one.
The rest....
12 Angry Men, Phish - Bittersweet Motel, The Secret of NIMH & The Secret of NIMH 2, and Best of Hitchcock Volume 1 & Best of Hitchcock Volume 2
